The Head of Sound is a full-time salary exempt position that will independently implement all audio requirements for all Fine Arts Center Performing Arts Department programming. Reporting to the Director of Production, this position requires high-level technical knowledge of the live mixing of theatrical musical performances inclusive of orchestras, wireless microphones, audio monitors, personal monitor mixers, and actor amplification.What We Offer:Medical, Dental, and Vision InsurancePaid vacation and sick time – accrual of 7.34 hours of vacation per pay period (176 hours, 22 days per year) and 0.0462 hours of sick time for each hour worked (96 hours, 12 days per year)Paid seasonal breaks and holidays (20 days per year)403(b) retirement plans where employees contribute 5% of pay and CC contributes 10%Tuition benefits for employee and eligible dependentsPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Assistance ProgramWellness benefits including free access to the sports center, swimming pool, arts and crafts, outdoor programs, and financial consultantsWork location: Hybrid: This position primarily operates on campus with the opportunity for intermittent remote work.Eligibility for Visa Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.Responsibilities:Work with sound designers, music directors, and video/projection designers to implement their visions.Oversee and implement all aspects of sound and video for each production.In consultation with the Director of Production, determine and purchase all audio equipment and perishable supplies within approved budgets. Manage and maintain inventory and organization of all audio gear in a professional working order.Manage overhire A2s (onstage audio assistants) and all over-hire audio technicians for each production with positivity and an eye for departmental growth.Participate with requests from the Director of Production with special functions such as openings, fundraising activities with other Fine Arts Center departments, and the FAC Theater School.Determine all audio needs for rentals and special events programming in the Fine Arts Center Theatre Company spaces as assigned.Does this position require driving CC vehicles/being insurable under CC's insurance plan? NoRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in audio or equivalent experience plus a minimum of three years of live mixing of theatrical musical performances; proficient in complex digital audio and video systems; fluent with Mac, PC, and complex AV programs and technologies including but not limited to Qlab, Dante, and MIDI systems; excellent troubleshooting and repair skills; advanced live mixing abilities including wireless microphones, monitor systems, band/orchestras, and effects; familiarity with paging/monitor systems, networking, Clear Com, and video systems/projectors; strong written and verbal communications skills and excellent collaboration skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from all backgrounds; and general office skills.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Audio or related field; five plus years of professional live audio experience, experience as an A2 onstage audio assistant. Experience in video and projections, with a knowledge of various types of equipment and the ability to support designers by leading installation, focus, and troubleshooting efforts, is a plus.Applicants are welcome to apply even if you do not meet the preferred qualifications.
