Respite means to take a break. Clients often need a way to take some space from the stressors in their lives and we are here to provide that. Throughout the day you are spending your time engaging with clients, observing safe medication practices, working on daily independent living skills, assessing for risk and crisis situations, and providing case management supports as needed. Clients may utilize Respite as a step down from a hospital or proactively to prevent a hospital stay. The program is staffed 24/7 and you will develop strong relationships with other CHR programs, primary health, and pharmacies to best support those in our care. Many clients enter Respite at their “breaking points” and feeling hopeless and have the opportunity to connect with caring staff who can make life feel worthwhile again. Staff are provided with a monthly staff meeting as well as individualized supervision and a program director who is on call 24/7 so you never have to feel alone.ABOUT THE POSITION:

Residential CounselorPosition Highlights:• Experience working with clients from all walks of life, both on a short-term and long-term basis• Respite allows someone to feel supported and work on any and all aspects that will make returning to daily life an easier transition.Duties & Responsibilities:Maintains physical environment and program standards to CHR, DMHAS, JCAHO, and any other licensing standard.Monitors medications of all residents in accordance with the Adult residential medication policy and procedure.Effectively utilizes appropriate communication methods/tools to transfer information to other staff regarding the day’s events.Teaches and assists all residents in areas of rehab including: nutrition and healthy living, meal preparation, hygiene, laundry, banking and budgeting, and basic home care skills.Assists/Manages administrative functions and tasks at the direction of the supervisor.Prepares and facilitates educational and skill-building groups and one-to-one interventions as directed by the treatment plan.Collaborates and coordinates care with providers and families as needed.Assists residents in addressing medical and psychiatric needs.Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.Participates in staff meetings, supervision, training, and other meetings as assigned.Additional duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma and/or Associate’s degree with minimum 2 years relevant experience.Experience:

Experience working with chronic and persistent mentally ill clients in a residential group home or supported living setting preferred.Licensure/Certification/Registration:

CPR/First-Aid Certification within 6 months of hire or according to program requirements. Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and no fault insurance. Knowledge and safe practice of CT State Motor Vehicle Laws.COMPENSATION:
