University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of MedicineThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks an individual with an outstanding record of patient care, scientific achievement, scholarly accomplishments, and mentoring to serve as the inaugural Chief of the Division of Oncology. Dynamic leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and keen vision are required. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Division Chief will be responsible for building and maintaining the highest quality patient care, including establishing outpatient cancer services, creating robust research programs, championing high quality graduate medical education programs, and prioritizing medical student education.Responsibilities

Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students.Practice clinical cancer medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to UT Health Rio Grande Valley.Provide physician staffing for the out-patient clinic and in-patient services at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other Oncology staff/internists with the same level of training and experience.Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department.Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in cancer medicine for learners rotating through the services.Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to cancer care.Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment.Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities, including instruction and mentorship of research support personnel in protocol implementation.Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research.Minimum Qualifications

Completion of an accredited oncology fellowship, and board certification (or eligibility) in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology through ABIM.Licensed, or ability to obtain licensure, to practice medicine in Texas.Qualified for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at UTRGV.
