Salary range:

A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,282 - $23,306 (based on salary points 1-36). Please see the UCSC Salary Scales and refer to the

Non-senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre-six Lecturer Academic Year

scale. Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation may vary, and the course salary will be adjusted accordingly. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time:

Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start:

Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding.

This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2023 through fall quarter 2024.

Position duration:

Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position descriptionThe Linguistics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach courses in our undergraduate and graduate curriculum. These could include courses within our core undergraduate courses in phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, semantics, and syntax, as well as elective courses or graduate courses covering other topics, including linguistic typology, language and social identity, methodology, morphology, pragmatics, or computational linguistics.

The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

Internal candidates will be given priority consideration.

QualificationsBasic qualifications

Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in linguistics, or related field.

A minimum of two years' university teaching experience.
