We believe in the power of camp to enrich kids’ lives, and we remove barriers to summer camp participation by reducing costs, providing transportation, and using a network of neighborhoods and agencies to connect with local families.Wildwood Outdoor Education Center is seeking a Development Director focused on individual and corporate giving to help fulfill our strategic plan and further our mission in the community. We are seeking an optimistic, mission-driven professional who is inquisitive, personable, and a natural conversationalist.This position focuses on:building and cultivating relationships with individuals and businesses;leveraging relationships to secure philanthropic support and sponsorships for Wildwood programs and projects;optimizing fundraising events to increase impact and revenue;developing and activating a meaningful donor connection program.This position has been reconfigured to 3/4 time (30 hours/week) and 75%-90% remote. It
requires two to four days per month at our La Cygne, KS office location.
Ideal candidates will live and work remotely most of the year in the Greater Kansas City metro area.Responsibilities:Build and strengthen Wildwood's community of contributors.Increase connection to Wildwood for current donors.Research and triage lapsed donor and alumni connections for strengthening.Attract new interest and support for Wildwood and establish relationships with mission-aligned people, organizations, and companies.Conduct weekly individual outreach with donors and prospects.Plan and prepare for meetings and camp tours with the executive director and donors and prospects.Develop written materials, digital content, and exceptional appeals and opportunities for donor, alumni, and supporter connection.Oversee a full-time grants and marketing manager, grant writing contracts, deadlines, reports, and relationships with select program officers. Support executive director in relationships with select program officers.Create and execute fundraising events including an annual activity for 200+ and smaller opportunities year-round:In concert with executive director and board members, design and execute an annual event that will engage and delight donors and raise $125,000+.Collect live and silent auction items, and secure event sponsorships.Manage contracts for event site, food and drink, technology, auction, rentals, etc.Identify mission-aligned opportunities to host in-person events in the community and attract and connect new and existing supporters.Oversee event planning meetings, tasks and assignments, marketing, and record-keeping.Envision future event-based fundraising and conduct ROI and regular evaluation of offerings to develop improved events.Direct fund development operations to result in excellent philanthropic support and increased community awareness for Wildwood and legal and ethical compliance with industry best practices:With executive director, write an annual development plan that matches Wildwood's board approved strategic plan.Represent the organization in the community as a speaker, thought-leader, and advocate for the mission.Direct meaningful data collection and story-telling strategies for Wildwood to communicate the benefits of the Wildwood experience.Keep up to date on research on local and national giving trends, mission-aligned research and issues, local happenings and news, and other stakeholders using a variety of tools.Conduct donor and prospect research using databases and wealth-screening tools.Maintain the grants and sponsors calendar and report on grants received, planned and pending, fundraising events, and other activities to the executive director regularly and to the board of directors quarterly.Keep detailed records of donor interactions using CRM (Little Green Light) and project management platforms (Asana).Qualifications:This position requires 2-3 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, fundraising, or other relevant field. A successful candidate will have experience building and cultivating relationships with individuals and corporations, planning and executing events, and managing projects and CRM/databases.Preferred qualifications include prior fundraising experience, camp experience as a counselor or camper; experience raising funds in the Kansas City area; experience with capital campaigns, and superior interpersonal communication skills and follow-through.A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. Candidates should possess a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.We offer a flexible schedule, 4-day work week (30 hours), and 75-90% remote work for this position. The starting annual salary will be between $50,000 and $65,000. Wildwood benefits include 100% paid employee health insurance, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability. We offer a 3% match on employee retirement contributions to our SIMPLE IRA at one year of service.Wildwood provides 15 days of paid vacation for new FT employees increasing to 20 days at 5 years of service.
