Position Description

The Kelley Laboratory in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of

Evolutionary Genomics Assistant Research Scientist . Under the direction of Dr. Joanna Kelley, the successful candidate will lead a research program in conservation genomics that uses a diversity of omic approaches, with an emphasis on genomics and transcriptomics. The assistant research scientist will apply expertise in genome sequencing, genomic biodiversity data and bioinformatics. The researcher will be expected to publish in scientific journals and lead strategic educational outreach initiatives.

Applicants with experience or expertise in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:Experience developing training and outreach programs.Expertise and education in genome sequencing, genomic biodiversity data and bioinformatics, with experience in non-model organisms.Knowledge of genomic library preparation.Expertise in bioinformatics skills, including knowledge of command-line interfaces and UNIX and NGS pipelines.Experience performing next-generation sequencing using standard NGS equipment.Experience with live animals and following appropriate IACUC protocols.

Basic qualifications

PhD (or an equivalent foreign degree) in biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a closely related field.A minimum of five years' experience in genomics and computational biology.A minimum of five years' training (at least at the graduate level) with live animals.
