Job Description Summary

Serves as Assistant General Counsel reporting to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel. Provides legal advice and services on a broad spectrum of legal issues for OhioHealth including clinical care sites, business units, and corporate functions. This position is responsible for supporting the legal needs of the organization by providing expert legal counsel in areas including, but not limited to, physician and provider contracting, purchased service/goods contracts, compliance and regulatory matters, patient care issues, bioethical issues, medical staff matters, licensing and reporting requirements, business transactions and regulatory oversight. The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for maintaining strong client relationships and interacting with all levels of leadership from front line clinical staff to executive leadership in order to provide complex and practical legal guidance that informs and drives the organization's business goals.

Job Summary

Serves as Assistant General Counsel on the provider operations group reporting to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Business Operations. Provides legal consultation and advice to OhioHealth including its hospitals, subsidiaries and affiliates. Provides legal advice and services on a broad spectrum of issues, including but not limited to, healthcare-related legal matters for the system’s hospitals, urgent cares, free-standing emergency departments, physician offices, pharmacy, laboratory, home care and hospice, medical education, and other business departments. This position is responsible for a wide variety of other legal services related to such areas as real estate and construction, managed care, mergers and acquisitions and business ventures, contracting, purchased service/goods contracts, patient care issues, bioethical issues, facility research activities, and other general healthcare matters. The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for maintaining strong client relationships and interacting with all levels of leadership from front line clinical staff to executive leadership in order to provide complex and meaningful legal guidance that informs and drives the organization's business and clinical goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school. Current license to practice law in the State of Ohio and member in good standing of the Ohio bar (or will become so licensed within 12 months of employment) and some familiarity with Ohio law.

Years of experience: 4 to 6

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Requires a minimum of at least 4 years of experience in a law firm, governmental agency or in-house legal department (or combination thereof) with significant experience in corporate, transactional and healthcare regulatory law. Strong executive presence and interpersonal skills are required to ensure leadership receives meaningful legal guidance that ensures appropriate risk mitigation for all legal matters.
