Residential & Community Living is responsible for the overall student life program in eight residence halls and nine apartment complexes (10,000+ residents) with a focus on student development and leadership programs, a residential curriculum approach, and conduct and accountability. The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is a full-time live-in position with on-call responsibilities. Under the general supervision of a Resident Director (RD), the ARD utilizes a curricular approach and equity mindset as cornerstones of their daily work in facilitating student wellness, development, and belonging in a residential community. The contract term is 10.5 months or 12 months, depending on the assigned community's resident occupancy, with the opportunity for a renewal of one additional term. Primary responsibilities include:Assisting RD in the implementation of a curricular approach in the development and education of a residential community ranging from 600 to 1,800 residents.Sharing supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff.Advising hall/community council consisting of student leaders who represent the residential student voice and host social and developmental events.After-hours crisis response and scheduled on-call responsibilities for a neighborhood of 5,000-6,000 residents and a campus community of 10,000-11,000 residents.Developing effective working relationships with the 60+ colleagues that make up our R&CL staff.Required Qualifications:1-3 Years Experience with planning and implementing programs/activities.1-3 Years Experience in a student leadership role.Ability to constructively engage others in complex social justice, access, inclusion, and equity issues on campus.Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across a large, multifunctional department.Comprehensive knowledge of UCSB campus resources and support services.Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a student housing community.Knowledge of and/or experience working within a residential curriculum campus.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.1-3 Years Experience working within a residential curriculum campus.1-3 Years Experience in supervising student staff.1-3 Years Experience in student/peer advising.Special Conditions of Employment:UCSB Campus Security Authority under Clery Act.Satisfactory conviction history background check.UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.Job Functions and Percentages of Time:Community Development & Education - 35%:

Assists RD in the implementation of a comprehensive and unique educational plan for their community that is aligned with the department's residential curricular approach. Uses both educational and social initiatives to foster a deep sense of belonging amongst all residents, specifically amongst underrepresented student populations living in their community. Maintains a visible presence in the community. Supervises and oversees the community development efforts of the Resident Assistant staff and tracks their use of resident and departmental funds. In collaboration with Student Leadership Programs Advisors, provides support and guidance to student leaders of hall/community council in their efforts to engage residents and address community needs.Supervision of Staff - 20%:

Shares responsibility with the Resident Director in the daily supervision of student staff. Assists in coordination and facilitation of training for student staff during the pre-Fall training periods and ongoing, as needed. Collaborates in the evaluation of student staff annually, highlighting successes and providing meaningful and actionable feedback for improvement where appropriate.Student Conduct & Counseling - 20%:

Assists in adjudicating conduct cases involving residents from their community in adherence to departmental sanctioning standards and residential curriculum objectives. Supports students in resolving their mental health concerns and/or connects them with campus and community resources as needed. Coordinates with Student Conduct, Social Workers, AD, and other staff as needed to provide effective support for students of concern. Provides mediation of roommate or community conflicts where appropriate.Community Safety - 5%:

Serves on the on-call team that provides on-call support to residents and campus every day of the year, including during campus breaks, holidays, and closures. Serves as a first responder to community and campus crises. Provides support to campus authorities as appropriate. Supports campus efforts during special events to provide enhanced security measures within the community. Provides coaching and direction to on-call student staff in their response to after-hour emergency and crisis situations.Departmental Support - 20%:

Participates in the recruitment of student and professional staff. Communicates and collaborates with HDAE partners (i.e. Residential Operations, Campus Dining, etc.) to support the daily operation of the community. Confers with their Resident Director and co-ARD (if applicable) to strategize around and address an array of issues impacting the daily operation of the community. Assists in the management of budgets for programming, hall/community council, and staff development.UC Vaccination Programs Policy - With Interim Revisions:
