The Target Pay Range for this position is $178,900-$218,400 annually. The full Pay Range is $138,800-$258,500 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance-based and targets vary by role.Benefits

In this pivotal role as Principal Data Engineer, your expertise will be the driving force in shaping the future of our data strategy and implementation. You'll be at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge ML and AI technologies, ensuring the highest data quality and integrity. Your efforts will optimize resource distribution, leading to robust data flows that empower our data consumers, from analysts to scientists. Collaborating with our cyber security and architecture teams, you'll play a key role in safeguarding our data and staying ahead in the ever-evolving tech landscape.What You'll Do
Strategy Implementation: Guide enterprise-wide complex data solutions, ensuring compliance with BECU competencies and information protection standards. Utilize programming languages like Java, Pyspark, Python and Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, and Cloud-based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake.Technical Leadership: Provide expertise in the analysis, design, coding, testing, and debugging of data processes. Regularly present technical insights to a broad audience.Performance Optimization: Continually evaluate and enhance data engineering processes for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.Collaborative Design: Lead efforts in developing high-performing data solutions in partnership with various technology teams.Innovative Development: Design and implement scalable data services, focusing on proofs of concept and prototypes.Data Governance Enhancement: Improve enterprise-wide metadata management and master data policies in collaboration with relevant teams.Expert Guidance: Offer frameworks and guidance to data engineering teams for developing and testing data workflow systems.Visionary Planning: Partner with Architects and Product Owners to shape the team’s technology roadmap.Competency Development: Collaborate in developing training plans aligned with modern industry standards.Professional Growth: Engage in professional development focused on data concepts, management, and quality.Additional Responsibilities: Tackle various duties as needed to support our goals and objectives.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or business discipline, or equivalent work or education-related experience required.Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in data engineering required.Minimum 6 years of experience in coding languages like Python, Scala, Java, SQL required.Minimum 4 years of data migration experience with cloud technologies required.Implementation experience with cloud technologies (platforms like Azure, AWS, GCP) required.Implementation experience of two or more of Modern data platforms (AWS/Azure Synapse/Redshift/Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Big Query,) required.Advanced experience with modern data platforms (Azure Synapse, Databricks, etc.) and distributed parallel processing.Comprehensive skills in SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, and analytics engines.Proficient understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.Preferred Qualifications
Experience enabling AI & ML data on cloud platforms.Involvement in researching and monitoring technological advancements.Experience with cloud-hosted SQL-based datastores and NoSQL systems.Familiarity with new developments in master data and data governance.EEO Statement
