The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI) is responsible for department-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness of our work through better health information systems, increased application of epidemiologic methods of analysis, strong liaisons with public health organizations and schools of public health, and effective partnerships with local health agencies and professionals. CHSI houses the Office of Vital Records, responsible for registering all California vital events and providing birth, death, and marriage records to the public. In addition, CHSI is involved in many cross-cutting and innovative data projects including the statewide Open Data Portal and Health Information Exchange.

Job Description And Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by planning, organizing, coordinating, reviewing, and approving the work of the Operations Branch (OB) in the Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI), including all subordinate staff and managers.

The Staff Services Manager (SSM) III personally manages projects that are highly sensitive and potentially controversial that may involve representatives of the Legislature, other State departments, and the Federal government. Primary responsibilities include program development, management, monitoring, and evaluation. Oversees the functions of personnel, budgets, contracts, and facilities for CHSI. Collaborates with CHSI managers in providing support and resources adequate to meet the day-to-day needs of CHSI operations.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Assistant Deputy Director (ADD) of CHSI.

Telework Information

An Office-Centered Telework schedule may be approved after the initial probation/training period, in accordance with CDPH Guidelines, and with CHSI Management approval. The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
