To conduct collaborative research in plasma physics, including experimental research in tokamaks. Research will be done in collaboration with experimental and theoretical researchers in the Department of Physics Institute of Fusion Studies (IFS) and with outside facilities such as DIII-D National Fusion Facility and EAST.Job Details:The IFS research contributes to the understanding of plasma phenomena important to fusion. The primary location for this position is on The University of Texas main campus in Austin, TX; however, there may be travel to DIII-D (San Diego, CA) and EAST (China). In addition to the experimental staff, the IFS is currently staffed with theory experts in MHD, computational physics and gyrokinetic simulations who emphasize theory-experiment comparison. There are opportunities for collaboration both in sophisticated analysis of experimental results and in development of experiments to challenge contemporary theory. This position is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. Initially, the position is a one year assignment with the possibility for extension based on performance and funding availability.Responsibilities:To work on design and development of electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostics on domestic and international tokamaks.To work on the development of the ITER ECE diagnostics.To conduct and analyze experiments under direction of lead experimentalists and for disseminating, presenting and reporting research results. To publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific meetings.Required Qualifications:

PhD in Plasma Physics or related area. PhD must have been received within three years from the date of hire.Preferred Qualifications:

Background in experimental physics. Experience in magnetic confinement fusion, with emphasis on transport and turbulence in tokamaks. Knowledge in turbulent/transport simulation suites such as TRANSP and TGLF.Salary:
