Role: ControllerReports To: Chief Financial OfficerFSLA Status: Salaried, Exempt, Full Time, 40 hoursLocation: On-site with some flexibility to work remotelyThe RoleReporting to the CFO, the Controller holds a high level of responsibility for the oversight of key finance, budgeting, and reporting activities for Grace Farms Foundation. More specifically, the Controller leads the day-to-day accounting operations, including functional responsibility over accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, payroll, and banking. The Controller ensures that the Foundation maintains - and, as appropriate, improves -- the systems, procedures, and controls to support effective program implementation and reporting thereon. The Controller works closely with department directors and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures, but also to explore how the finance function can best partner with them and support the advancement of their initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesBeing a trusted thought partner to the CFO in the overall financial operations of the nearly 100-person Foundation with outreach and activities that are both local and worldwide.Management and execution of general accounting functions, including:Oversight and mentorship of a FT Staff Accountant, who, among many (and growing) responsibilities, has a primary focus on AP, revenue recognition, and monthly closings.Accounts payable, ensuring adherence to contracts and budget.Revenue recognition.Partner with HR on bi-weekly payroll processing (which includes exempt and hourly staff), ensuring clean and timely execution.Assisting HR with benefits administration.Banking, including reconciliations, and some treasury functions.Prepaids and accruals tracking.Preparing reports, both internal and external.Playing a central role in the annual budget building process, focusing on education and execution with key stakeholders.Coordination of the annual audits and tax compliance reporting (Form 990-PF), including preparation and review of workpapers with outside accountants.Projections and monitoring of cashflow, as well as revenue and expense summaries.Managing the fixed assets tracking and reporting.W2/1099 reporting and quarterly tax filings.Provide insight on the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategies, policies, and initiatives, especially as they relate to financial prudence and monetary security.Maintain, and as necessary build, training materials, guidelines, and other tools to assist with financial management requirements and ensure easy personnel transitions and redundancy.Other professional duties as assigned.Skills & AbilitiesKeen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills that allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data both to employees and senior leadership.Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance employees.Maintain an entrepreneurial and creative spirit and vision to achieve mission-based goals.Willingness to be a thought partner and collaborator with colleagues from across diverse sectors.Possess exceptional attention to detail.Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a nimble, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree in accounting (or similar) required.Minimum of 10 years related experience; experience with non-profit organizations desired.Solid experience in coordination of audit activities and managing reporting, budgeting development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll.Background in compliance and reporting of government requirements preferred.Technology savvy with experience in overseeing accounting and ERP software. (The Foundation currently deploys NetSuite.)Physical Requirements:Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Compensation range:
