Duties

As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:

Develop and provide staff direction involving public information, internal information, and community relations activities.

Develop campaign or program guidelines, defining the scope and parameters for implementing campaigns and providing suggested activities, materials to be used, deadlines, and reporting requirements.

Develop appropriate communication channels, techniques, and strategies for use by others in disseminating information to hard-to-reach audiences.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with print and broadcast media representatives in disseminating information or answering inquiries about the organizations' operations or activities.

Write articles and speeches and prepare and/or publish organizational publications.

Arrange for organizational representatives to speak to local civic or service groups; inform local community of activities through various media available.

Speak to a variety of groups and participate in meetings to promote the dissemination of information concerning agency programs.

US Citizenship required.

Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation.

One-year probationary period may be required.

This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: develop and implement communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the internal workforce and other audiences. Demonstrate strong writing and journalism skills to develop science and audience-based products and messages to different audiences in a variety of formats.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree must be from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

This position has been designated as telework eligible.

May include remote work or telework options, and/or flexible work scheduling.

This position is eligible for inclusion in the Bargaining Unit.

May be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
