Duties

As a Health Scientist (Informatics) you will:

Develop and implement scientific policies and procedures on informatics practices and principles.

Provide leadership in designing, coordinating, and maintaining information technology (IT) project goals, objectives, and priorities in the general public health community.

Serve as a nationally and internationally recognized expert, providing scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems that require outstanding creativeness in generating new hypotheses, approaches, and standards to be used within the applicable CIO, across CDC/ATSDR and in some instances to be used internationally.

Provide leadership in the development, testing, implementation, and evaluation of scientific information technology and information systems needs and applicable software relating to public health informatics within the area of responsibility.

Explore alternatives, suggestions, and approaches from internal and external partners, focusing on data acquisition/multi-jurisdictional databases, communication directories, and standardization codes.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

US Citizenship required.

Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared.

CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Direct deposit is required.

One-year probationary period may be required.

This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

This position has 20% supervisory duties, candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience:

in the development, testing, implementation, and evaluation of scientific information technology and information systems needs relating to public health informatics.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience.
