Navy Yard .Job SummaryThis position serves as a Navigation Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Warfare System Engineering Manager. Occasional travel may be expected in this position.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Act as the primary Navigational Systems expert for CVN 68 and CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers.Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM).Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request.Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs).Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 4+ years of experience providing engineering support.OR E7 or above in the U.S. Navy or Coast Guard.Experience with Navigational Systems on U.S. Navy, Coast Guard or Merchant Marine Vessels.Good technical and written communication skills.Willing to travel occasionally to Newport News, VA if required.Preferred Qualifications:Working with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard systems.Experience working with program managers in an engineering role.Experience with nuclear powered vessels.Security Clearance Requirements:Must possess a current or active U.S. Government Secret Security clearance.Physical Requirements:Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
