This future role offers the opportunity to spearhead a transformation advancing and integrating geriatric medicine clinical services across the University and expanding Tulane’s footprint for geriatric care throughout Southeast Louisiana.

A generous gift from a philanthropist allows the Tulane University School of Medicine to recruit a nationally renowned expert in geriatric medicine. This associate/full professor will collaborate with others at the school and in the community to improve healthcare, develop new therapies, and innovate care delivery for the elderly. A clinical focus on age management and preventive care is desired. Additionally, they will lead and coordinate medical education efforts for students, residents, fellows, faculty, staff, community physicians, and other healthcare providers in Southeast Louisiana. This Section Chief will partner with other stakeholders to advance research on aging and Gero Science.

The successful candidate will lead efforts to enhance healthcare, develop innovative therapies, address and reshape the rapidly evolving clinical care delivery requirements for the elderly.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and execute a comprehensive system-wide strategic vision and plan for Geriatric Care and Senior Services, offering a range of programs and resources designed for seniors with complex and multiple illnesses.Collaborate across university and departmental boundaries to drive excellence in clinical care, education, and research.Provide oversight of the clinical programs, including quality, safety, and value-based, cost-effective care for the geriatric patients at Tulane University; and build our services into a destination for aging patients, those with serious chronic diseases, and in need of end-of-life care.Advance research and scholarship by guiding the growth of geriatrics research, particularly by fostering collaborative research involving faculty of other departments, centers, and institutes within the University and other institutions in the country.Lead educational initiatives, including undergraduate and graduate medical education; fellowship training programs; and continuing medical education.Grow the program through strategic recruitment to expand the areas of geriatrics for the hiring of other professional and support staff.Serve as a member of the senior academic leadership team.Represent the medical school and Tulane regionally and nationally.Actively engage in community outreach for program development and strategic planning centered around optimizing holistic care for the elderly.Tulane SOM is committed to excellence in research, patient care, and teaching. Professional Qualifications:

Hold an MD, MD/PhD, DO, with current Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.Preferably, possess additional certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Geriatric Medicine and/or Hospice and Palliative Medicine, though not required.Be eligible for medical licensure in Louisiana and academically qualified for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.Demonstrate achievement as a faculty member in a medical school, with expectations of holding the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine.Have a national reputation as a leader, clinician, educator, and/or researcher in Gerontology, Geriatrics, and/or Palliative Care.Show effectiveness in clinical program development, professional education, and research within an academic setting.Demonstrate success in creating and executing strategic plans for academic physicians/scientists.Exhibit proficiency in leading or supporting medical research and translating research findings into actionable recommendations.Possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.Identify opportunities and concerns and apply effective management principles for achieving success.Create a dynamic work environment that values colleagues' contributions and fosters a culture of success and celebration.Display strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to build effective relationships with professionals in various disciplines.
