TYPE OF APPOINTMENT ISSUED:

This position is included in the Educational Officers' Bargaining Unit and will be filled as a clear line appointment.

A WRITTEN EXAMINATION/ASSIGNMENT MAY BE ADMINISTERED TO HELP DETERMINE POSSESSION OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES PORTIONS OF THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.Under the general supervision of the Athletics Administrative Officer of the Extracurricular Section, the Summer Learning Coordinator:Ensures that summer learning opportunities align to the Department's Educational Plan Systemwide Strategies. Plans, organizes, and implements summer learning opportunities in the Department to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students. Assists with developing, implementing and documenting short- and long-term program planning efforts; program policies and procedures in compliance with applicable state laws, rules and regulations.Coordinates with governmental agencies and community organizations that provide summer programming. Actively partners with organizations to align with educational priorities that support student learning.Coordinates with Department state offices to review summer learning procedures, collect data and evaluate program effectiveness, reduce or eliminate redundant efforts, and promote the equitable provision of services.Gathers and analyzes summer learning program data and operations. Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of program goals and objectives, procedural policy, and compliance. Uses good judgement based on Department practices, policies and procedures and recommends and implements program improvements.Manages funding as appropriate for summer programs and follows up with state offices, complex areas and schools.Performs other related duties as assigned.Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in education with specialization in a subject field appropriate to the area(s) of assignment.Experience:

Six (6) years of responsible professional work experience in education of which four (4) years shall have been in teaching and two (2) years in curriculum or program planning, as appropriate.Desired Experience:

At least six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience through active participation in the planning, coordination, development and/or evaluation of programs. The experience must have involved performing professional work concerned with summer learning, out-of-school, or extended learning opportunities. It must further have demonstrated a high degree of analytical skill involving the ability to identify needs, collect and analyze data, and develop recommendations that result in improved educational opportunities for students.Combined Education and Experience:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable as determined by the Department. Substitutions can be considered for the requirement of experience in an education program, agency, or system.Knowledge:

Foundations of curriculum and instruction; instructional media and computers; foundations of American education; tests and measurements; principles of learning and individual differences; curriculum design and development; educational statistics; purposes, methods, subject matter and materials pertinent to the area(s) of assignment; research developments, trends and current issues or problems pertinent to the area(s) of assignment; laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures pertinent to the area(s) of assignment.Desired Knowledge:

Summer learning, out-of-school, or extended learning opportunities; state and federal policies as it pertains to summer learning; Department's Educational Plan and the focus on accelerating learning through the use of varied modalities including tutoring, out-of-school time, extended time, and other instructional supports for students.Ability to:

Provide leadership, planning and coordination in the area(s) of assignment; develop, analyze and evaluate plans, programs and procedures; communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing; operate computer and other business machines; use tools, equipment, instruments or devices appropriate to the area(s) of assignment; maintain awareness of developments in curriculum or program areas.Desired Ability to:

Analyze data from multiple sources to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate summer learning; establish effective working relationships within the Department and with government/community organizations; project management of large initiatives; effective written and oral communication skills including use of collaborative platforms; effectively plan, prioritize, organize to meet established deadlines and goals.SALARY RANGE:

EOSR-7, $110,136 to $155,904.Department of Education certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.All others will be placed on the first step of $110,136.

WORK YEAR AND BENEFITS:

This appointment will be on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave provided according to applicable regulations.

EDUCATIONAL OFFICER CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT:

Article 11, Appointments, paragraphs A2b and A2c- "All vacancies for State and District level educational officer positions shall be advertised for twenty (20) days prior to selection. Priority for appointments shall be given to qualified and tenured educational officers in that class who wish to move to that position through lateral transfer or a voluntary demotion and second to all other qualified educational officers with tenure."APPROVED:
