Position titleDescriptionThe Department of Medicine and the Division of Neurology at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital is recruiting a neuromuscular neurologist. This position works under the general direction of the Head of the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at the Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa.The Division of Neurology has over 30 Neurologists and is renowned for delivery of outstanding care and recognized internationally for its programs, including neuromuscular, MS, neuro ophthalmology, movement disorders, epilepsy and stroke. Members of the Division have a wide range of clinical and basic science research skills. Their work includes cutting-edge clinical trials, translational research, and epidemiology.The successful candidate will join a group of nationally and internationally recognized neuromuscular neurologists. The successful candidate would work in the NeuroMuscular Centre, a large clinical research centre with clinical, electrodiagnostic testing and dedicated clinical-research space.ResponsibilitiesThe individual will be expected to participate in:outpatient neuromuscular disorder clinics;electrodiagnostic studies (Canadian EMG certified);rotate on the neurology inpatient and neurology consultation services;participate in neurology academic activities;teach medical students, residents and fellows in outpatient and inpatient settings;participate in the neurology on-call rotation on a regular basis;provide 1 day/week general neurology clinic.The Neuromuscular group is part of the Eric Poulin Centre for Neuromuscular Disease and University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Institute, bringing together basic scientists and clinicians from across the academic environments to focus on clinical and translational research in neuromuscular conditions.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will be a neurologist with a minimum of one year of fellowship training in Neuromuscular Disorders.The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association; have, or be eligible for certification in neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates with particular interest in acquired / autoimmune neuropathies, myasthenic disorders and strong interest in conducting clinical trials and supporting research.The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are bilingual institutions and therefore in the case of potentially successful candidates of equal ability, a bilingual (French/English) candidate would be preferred.Additional InformationThe Department of Medicine is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in our living, learning, and work environments.
