PRIMARY PURPOSE:The Executive Director of School Improvement and Support leads the implementation of best practices and research-based strategies to assist schools identified as needing improvement or designated as Improvement Required (IR) by the state's accountability system. This role also involves overseeing the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across the district. The position demands a dynamic leader with exceptional communication skills, a deep understanding of educational policies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with schools and district leadership.

The Executive Director of School Improvement and Support must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:• Extensive knowledge of school improvement initiatives, educational policies, and regulations.• Expertise in curriculum, special education, multilingual education, career and technical education, advanced academics, and early childhood education.• Proficiency in team building, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.• Competency in evaluating instructional programs, managing budgets, and personnel.• Strong skills in interpreting policies, procedures, and data.• Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal abilities.• Proficiency in using technology and educational software for school improvement and operations.• Ability to lead and manage organizational change effectively.• Skill in data-driven decision making to inform progress and strategies.• Understanding of and ability to work effectively within diverse cultural and socio-economic environments.

Chief of Academics & School LeadershipQualifications:Required:• Master’s degree from an accredited institution• Minimum three years of experience in school improvement and turnaround processes• Minimum three years of experience as a coach or mentor in leadership positions• Texas Mid-management or Principal certificationPreferred:• Prior experience as a principal supervisor• Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:School Improvement:• Provide targeted support to schools to enhance student achievement and overall performance.• Monitor and provide specialized support to schools in meeting the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and achieving satisfactory results on STAAR/EOC assessments by conducting regular campus visits.• Implement and review Campus Improvement Plans (CIP) or Targeted Improvement Plans (TIP) and ensure adherence to district and state regulations, focusing on academic performance and overall school quality and monitoring and evaluating the progress of schools under improvement plans, making necessary adjustments to strategies based on performance data.• Collaborate with schools to design and apply effective interventions, adjusting strategies as necessary to address challenges.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS):• Oversee the implementation and management of the MTSS framework to support student success through tiered interventions.• Supervise MTSS Coordinators to ensure they effectively support teachers, students, and families throughout the MTSS process.• Ensure MTSS practices align with district policies and state regulations.

Professional Development and Training:• Facilitate professional development for school staff focused on school improvement, complaint management, and MTSS implementation.• Develop resources and tools to assist schools in handling parent concerns and improving instructional practices.

Data Analysis and Strategic Planning:• Use data to identify areas of need, measure the effectiveness of improvement strategies, and make informed decisions.• Analyze performance data to inform the development of improvement plans and adjust strategies as needed.

Stakeholder Engagement:• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community members to garner support for school improvement efforts.• Ensure that improvement efforts are well-informed and aligned with local needs through active stakeholder engagement.

Coordination with the Texas Education Agency (TEA):• Act as a liaison between the district and the TEA to ensure compliance with state requirements and access additional support and resources as needed.

Collaboration and Communication:• Maintain regular communication with principals and district leadership regarding school issues, resources, and support.• Develop positive relationships with stakeholders to foster a culture of transparency and trust.

Policy and Procedure Development:• Participate in the development and review of district policies related to complaints, grievances, and investigations.• Analyze data to identify trends and recommend policy changes or procedural enhancements based on best practices and data analysis.

Miscellaneous:• Execute district initiatives as assigned.• Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and statewide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret the Texas Education Code and district board policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
