Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for providing complex, wide-ranging technical support to courtroom and associated offices; installs, services and maintains audio-visual (A/V) equipment and computer hardware/software; assists in determining needs and ordering necessary A/V equipment, hardware and software; performs maintenance of network hardware and software; responds to after-hour calls; and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Installs, repairs, troubleshoots and maintains Audio Visual equipment in courtrooms, (e.g., digital audio recording devices, wireless and wired microphone assemblies, amplification equipment, video conferencing equipment, and electronic surveillance equipment such as television cameras, coaxial cable and monitors)Performs diagnostic tests on microcomputers, network systems and application softwareAnalyzes and develops solutions to problems and malfunctions of equipmentTests and evaluates hardware and software for efficiency and compatibility with existing network systemsAssists users in determination of complex software/hardware needs through assessment of equipment capabilities and user requirementsRecommends the purchase of new equipment or modifications of existing hardware and prepares specifications and orders for needed equipmentLeads projects assigned to section and compiles status reports to managementCoordinates the use of Audio Visual equipment, lighting and sound in courtroomsProduces written and electronic materials such as Court documents, procedures and instructions; prepares reportsSchedules, delivers and tracks equipment and maintains accurate inventory records of hardware/software installation and relocationTroubleshoots, maintains, and repairs uninterruptible power supplyResponds to after-hour calls related to Courtroom technology systemsPerforms related duties as requiredMinimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Audio Visual Media, or a closely related field and three (3) years computer network experience; OR successful completion of a relevant program from an accredited technical school and three (3) years computer network experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceGood knowledge of LAN software packages and operating systems; considerable knowledge of the principles of basic electronics; considerable knowledge of electromechanical systems; good knowledge of AC and DC circuitry; considerable knowledge of electronic surveillance equipment; skill in logic problem solving; and extensive knowledge of safety standards and practicesSkill in troubleshooting and repairing network equipment and peripherals; skill in installing hardware and software; and skill in performing diagnostic system testsAbility to recognize problems and recommend solutions; ability to utilize amp meters, circuit analysis devices and other computer diagnostic equipment; ability to read and understand schematics and other technical diagrams; and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected/Appointed Officials, Department Heads, County employees, and co-workersMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's OfficeMust clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen testMust have available transportation during entire workday; required to travel to remote sites within Bexar CountyMust have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insuranceRequired being on call 24 hours a dayMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweekWork Environment and Physical Demands:

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 35-40 lbs.; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard.
