Summary
Under direct supervision, is responsible for general secretarial duties; prepares basic reports; maintains computerized files; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Types moderately complex letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processorMaintains statistics and develops reportsEnters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applicationsAnswers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretionDevelops and maintains filesAccesses and files informationOpens and distributes mailCopies information and distributes to appropriate locationResponds to general questions and complaints regarding department or workMay order and maintain suppliesPerforms related duties as requiredMinimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate; and two (2) years general office experience including at least one (1) year secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experienceMust type 25 wpm with no more than 7 errors; Requires recent typing test administered by Workforce Solutions Alamo Centers.Good knowledge of office procedures; knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge of word processing, database or spreadsheet software packagesSkill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipmentAbility to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general publicMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearanceMust clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen testMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweekWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Constantly working in indoor conditionsOccasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 poundsOccasionally moves about the officeFrequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate informationConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machineryPositions self to perform essential functionsMust be able to remain in a stationary position
