Description

This role of Linux System Administrator II, is to maintain the server environment by identifying system requirements, provisioning new systems, installing upgrades, managing software maintenance and licensing. The Linux Systems & Tools team is responsible for all Paycom application servers across all Paycom datacenters. As a Linux System Administrator, you will collaborate with the team in the architecture, configuration, and maintenance of all Linux systems projects, tools and processes, as well as participate in troubleshooting, remediation, and documentation.

RESPONSIBILITIESHelping implementing the architecture design and determining system requirements for all new server requestsConfigure Windows and Linux operating systems on virtual machines and physical serversWork support tickets assigned to the Linux Systems & tools teamReview system performance and logs and work with other team members to determine Paycoms overall system healthCapacity planning and forecastingDevelop team documentation for day to day duties and gained team knowledgeKeep systems properly configured, updated, healthy, hardened and scaled to meet the needs of the businessWork with various technology teams to pro-actively evaluate DR plans, backup requirements, and failover proceduresCommunicate with vendors to ensure we are properly licensed and up to date on renewalsBe responsible for and act as subject matter expert on any assigned systemsQualifications

1+ years of professional IT experience1+ years supporting Linux servers editionsSkills/Abilities:

In-depth knowledge of Linux Server operating system editionsBasic understandings of web application architecture and technologiesSome knowledge and experience with Bash or similar command line tools used to manage and automateUsing a log aggregation tool, such as Splunk, for troubleshooting and reportingLinux and Windows server administration - applying patches, ensuring health, right-sizing, ensuring quality DR architecture, and troubleshooting problemsBasic knowledge of Networking components (IP networking, Subnets)Data retention and capacity planningPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Info Sys, Computer Science or related fieldsRHCA/Linux+Experience:

System administration experience in small-large private datacenter environmentsProven track record of building and maintaining highly available system architectureHigh availability and disaster recovery planning and design.System performance reviewing experience of existing architecture for any changes to the system and that require updatesSkills/Abilities:

In-depth knowledge of Linux Server operating systems and built in toolsKnowledge of Windows Server operating systems and built in toolsBasic knowledge of VMware and virtual environmentsExperience with VDI/VMware HorizonIn-depth knowledge of Networking/Firewall componentsMulti-node system architecture implementation with multiple departments experienceIn-depth understanding of web application architecture and technologies
