Job Title:

Operating Room Circulator - RN

Job Summary:

OR RN Circulator able to float both Surgery Centers.Provide and customizes nursing care to the patient during the intraoperative phase. Setup the operating room, stocks and oversees the room during all surgeries.

Damp dusts room and all flat surfaces prior to start of day.Collects all equipment and supplies for the day.Ensures all alarms are active and functioningEnsures equipment wheels are locked and in lowest positionTests all equipment before start of the surgical case and monitors equipment during the caseEnsures implants are availableEnsures all supplies are available for each caseVerifies family member is available for communication with surgeon at end of each procedureAssesses readiness of patient for surgery/procedureReviews preoperative checklistConfirms preoperative assessmentConfirms required diagnostic testing prior to procedureIntroduces self to patientVerifies NPO status, allergies, past medical historyVerifies surgical consentsConfirms identity before the operative procedureVerifies verbally and visually the identity of the individual undergoing the operative procedure

Asks patient to state name, procedure and birth date

Verifies operative procedure, surgical site, laterality, and levelParticipates in the time out process before every surgeryMaintains all surgical documentation, as requiredCirculates surgical cases

Applies, removes and documents safety devices, positioning devices, and additional items related to specific surgical procedures.Checks patient skin integrity post surgeryImplements protective measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal sourcesCompletes all surgical counts and documents same

Documents all assessments and care provided in the medical record

Ensures all entries are legible, timely and conciseAuthenticates all entries

Transfers patient to PACU and provides thorough post-procedure report to PACU nurseMaintains training requirements

BLS and ACLSAnnual Risk Management educationAnnual OSHA trainingAnnual Malignant Hyperthermia drillCompetencies, when requiredParticipates in quarterly fire drills as required for AHCA Life Safety

Additional Responsibilities:

Current Florida RN LicensureStrong clinical skills and surgical experienceBasic computer proficiencyMinimum 1year experiencePrevious ASC experience preferredExcellent communication skillsMandatory BLS and ACLS
