Special Education Teacher- Gifted 5

Position Function:

The Gifted Resource Teacher is directly responsible to the building administrator for assistance in the development of mental, social, emotional, and physical growth of each pupil assigned to the teacher's class.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

Is present during those hours when the teacher has an assigned responsibility with pupils while school is in sessionPrepares completely and adequately to carry out his/her responsibilities to his/her pupilsPerforms the necessary administrative work related to the assignment, including completion of all reports required by the teaching assignment and the building administrationAttends all staff conferences, individual conferences between teacher and administrator, and is available for pupil and parent conferences, including conferences for writing IEP's and staffing for special educationSupervises pupils in and around the school building for a reasonable period of time before and after the school dayConducts instructional programs in a manner consistent with the curricular objectives of the courseTeaches with an understanding and respect for the individuality of each pupilTeaches with a scrupulous regard for honesty and accuracy without distortion or falsificationEvaluates his/her instruction in a continual effort to meet the highest standards set by the teaching professionAdheres strictly to professional ethicsMaintains and enforces discipline and pupil control and enforces school regulationsMakes necessary referrals of pupils to other professional personnel or specialistMakes provisions to assure that substitute teachers will have adequate direction in their workFully performs supplemental assignments, if any, in a professional mannerConducts tasks such as planning, grading, and telephone conferencesUndertakes efforts, which promote professional growth at his/her own discretionCollects and accounts through appropriate records all money to be used for educational purposes and exercises reasonable care to assure that any money collected will not be lostReports all cases of suspected child abuse or neglectCarries out the duties and responsibilities, which are assignedObserves, enforces, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school districtAttends programs designed for the involvement of parents, students, and community patrons when school is not in session as determined by the school building committeeAssumes responsibility for keeping parents informed between grading periods when pupil performance is less than satisfactory or when performance deviates from reasonable expectation for an individual pupil

Additional Duties:

Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Equipment:

The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.

Travel:

Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Interrelations:

In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leaveAny deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administratorAll employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:

Valid Kansas Teaching License requiredGifted Endorsement required
