Job Purpose

This role will provide crucial support to the Provost Office by managing front-desk operations during designated times. This role ensures that the office remains responsive and efficient, particularly during lunch hours and select afternoons. The Student Assistant will be responsible for answering questions, handling phone inquiries, and offering general support to staff and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Front Desk Management: Greet visitors and answer phone calls in a professional and courteous manner. Direct inquiries to the appropriate office personnel or department.

Administrative Support: Perform general administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing office supplies.

Information Dissemination: Provide accurate information to students, faculty, and staff as required. Assist with navigating office resources and services.

Coverage: Fill in for office staff during lunch hours each day and provide additional support for two hours in the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday. Ensure smooth office operations during these periods.

General Assistance: Support office staff with various tasks as needed, including handling correspondence, scheduling meetings, and maintaining office organization.

Qualifications

Enrollment: Must be a current student at Winthrop University with eligibility for a work-study program.

Availability: Must be available to work during lunch hours (12-1pm) each day and for two hours (3-5pm) in the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday.

Experience: Previous office or customer service experience is preferred but not required.

Skills: Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Professional Attire: Must adhere to office dress code standards, presenting a professional appearance that aligns with the office's business environment.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals.

Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.

Customer Service: Proven ability to provide high-quality customer service and address inquiries in a friendly and efficient manner.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with office equipment (phones, printers, etc.).

Problem-Solving: Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing issues that arise.
