Job Description The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a full-time Building Technician/Plumber position. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the Building Technician - Plumber will perform the range of duties described below with a focus on plumbing and maintaining fixtures in proper working order: Pump and sewer ejectors maintenance. Extend or tie into existing plumbing systems. Respond to repair orders, establish the priority of repairs, and recommend solutions to identified problems. Interact with vendors and supervisor. The position will also perform duties related to other building trades as needed such as light electrical, painting, carpentry, mechanical, Other duties as assigned; may include: providing general assistance to department personnel, faculty and staff; provide for building safety and security as well as inspect and maintain emergency systems for the buildings and physical plant. REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment. Successful completion of trade school or technical coursework in trade related skills may be substituted on a year for year basis. Ability to obtain a gas manometer license within 6 months of hire. Ability to obtain backflow certification within one year of hire. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; read and interpret plans, schematics, and maintenance manuals. Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations, construction safety standards, and ability to strictly enforce all safety protocols. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of personnel, including technical and academic staff. Proven successful experience working within a team environment. Knowledge of construction safety standards and ability to strictly enforce all safety protocols PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Additional education and/or training in your selected field Experience in a large commercial, educational or institutional facility Hands-on experience in a variety of building trades, including plumbing, and electrical Backflow prevention certification. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting objects in excess of 50 lbs., climbing ladders and working at heights up to 30 ft. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license This position is scheduled to work 1st shift, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is required to be on-call (on a rotating basis) to respond to after-hours emergencies. SALARY / BENEFITS This is a DRI Technologist position Grade 34 with a salary range of $60,611 - $88,298 (salary range effective 10/1/2024) and is commensurate with education and experience.
