Description

The Bus Driver is responsible for the operations of varies types of buses that will transport students and other passengers to and from designated locations. Drivers typically work without direct supervision and are fully responsible for the safety of their passengers. When not required to drive for IWCC, FT Bus Drivers assist the IWCC maintenance department under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.Job Duties

Demonstrate IWCC's core mission, vision and valuesTransport students and other passengers to and from designated destinations, overnights and weekends, adjust and plan travel routes if necessaryMake routine checks and inspection of bus and equipment for proper operation, safety, and maintenanceObserve and follow all applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations governing commercial transportationFollow school district guidelines regarding student management and discipline; report incidents to proper personnelMaintain required records of bus usage and reports of operationDrive commercial transportation vehicles with airbrakesPerform minor maintenance and safety checks of commercial vehiclesEvacuate students during an emergencyAssists maintenance department in assigned tasksPerforms snow removal, as neededQualifications

High school diploma or GEDMust have and maintain a valid CDL B/passenger license and school bus driver endorsementMinimum of 6 years general driving experience is preferredKnowledge of the operation and maintenance of commercial transportation vehiclesKnowledge of federal and state traffic laws and regulationsKnowledge of bus evacuation proceduresAbility to understand and follow specific instructions and proceduresAbility to present information both verbally and in writing in a professional mannerUnderstand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as neededAbility to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tag outWear/use PPE at all timesSkill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environmentWork in a cooperative manner with management, co-workers, internal/external customers and vendorsAbility to pass a background check, have a valid U.S Driver's License and a good driving recordAbility to pass a drug screen & pre-employment physical if applicablePhysical Demands

Operation of Class B motor vehicle requiring frequent upper body movement; repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to include grasping both firm and light; primarily right side to operate door opener.The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate bus equipmentSeeing to drive and to observe work performedHearing and speaking to communicate with students, parents, and other staffFrequent reaching to clean windshields, adjust mirrors, and open/close windowsFrequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing (bus steps) and extensive sittingWork environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautionsAbility to drive company owned or personal vehicle and operate lifts and machineryExposure to driving a school bus during adverse weather and traffic conditions, extreme temperatures, vehicle exhaust, odors, poor ventilation, and intense noiseExposure to working around and with machinery having moving partsWork involves limited exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noisesWork is frequently done in outdoor weather conditions; rain, snow, sun, wind and other forms weatherAbility to lift over 50lbs
