Christchurch Anglican in Montgomery, Alabama seeks a full-time Director of Music and Organist to lead its dynamic music program, which is grounded in both the high liturgical tradition of the Anglican Church and high-quality contemporary worship. Christchurch was founded in 2005 and has since grown to over 700 members on a campus of over 36 acres in growing area of Montgomery. We have a full-time Rector, two part-time priests, two vocational deacons, and a staff of over 20 serving a multi-generational church family in the proclamation of the faith delivered once for all to the saints.

The ideal candidate will be a faithful Christian experienced in sacred music leadership with skills and experience in organ, piano, and choral conducting.

This position is full-time with full benefits, including family health care, retirement contribution, and more. Salary will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Association of Anglican Musicians compensation guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree (preferred) in organ, choral conducting, or related music field (Bachelor’s degree applicants considered)

• Strong organ, piano, and conducting skills

• Strong understanding of vocal pedagogy

• Familiarity with Anglican liturgical traditions and customs

• Knowledge of and comfort with Church music literature in all forms and styles (traditional and contemporary) for congregation and choirs

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prayerful discernment of God’s guidance in the leadership of the music program

• The Director of Music reports directly to the Rector and works collaboratively with the Rector’s Assistant, Staff Accompanist, and the Director of Contemporary Music

• Planning liturgical music and leading worship for Sunday 9:30am services, Holy Days, special services, weddings, and funerals

• Directing and accompanying the Adult Chancel Choir

• Establishing a schedule and leading rehearsals for the Adult Chancel Choir, which currently rehearses Wednesdays 6:00pm-7:00pm during the Fall and Spring and Sundays at 8:30am throughout the year

• Hiring and managing of paid section leaders

• Hiring and scheduling of all outside musicians and singers, as needed

• Ongoing recruitment of volunteer choir members and contemporary musicians and singers

• Hiring substitute organists as needed

• Planning concerts and special musical events throughout the year, such as Choral Evensong, Advent Lessons and Carols, and Twelfth Night Hymn Sing

• Preparing and managing the music budget in collaboration with the Rector and Vestry

• Maintaining instruments and equipment
