JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the music ministry program of RELC. The director will also create a weekly worship slideshow for the contemporary service, foster musical engagement, and be responsible for several administrative functions to ensure the music ministry program is meeting the ultimate goal of providing a meaningful musical experience during worship services.

REPORTS TO:
Pastor and Worship and Music committee
QUALIFICATIONS:
A faith based in a love of Christ and active life in worship
Preferred bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience
Understanding of liturgy and worship along with the seasons of the church
Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
Ability to play piano for our Praise Band
Strong organizational and time management skills
Evening and weekend availability

Administrative Functions
ROLE SPECIFICATION:
Facilitate & coordinate musical experience for RELC worship services
Recruit, interview, and onboard paid and volunteer musicians and singers.
Coordinate pianists schedule for all services.
Select all music appropriate for each service in consideration of the church season and selected scripture readings in consultation with Pastor as needed.
Direct the Contemporary service Praise Band.
Coordinate and play piano for the Contemporary service Praise Band.
Foster musical engagement throughout RELC
Provide the opportunity for musical expression in worship by encouraging members of all ages to participate in choirs, praise bands, and/or the sharing of special music at services.
Coordinate special music performances (solos, small groups, choirs) of all ages as requested by the Worship & Music Committee.
Consider opportunities outside of worship in which music can be used to enhance an event or ministry, i.e., fundraisers, Resurrection Kids collaboration, etc.
Be visible and approachable.
Administrative Functions
Attend & participate in monthly Worship & Music committee meetings.
Provide a verbal report to the committee on worship planning, equipment maintenance concerns/needs, musical staffing needs, etc.
Maintain a worship planning log for all services to include pianists playing schedule.
Coordinate and purchase music resources within current annual budget or as approved by the Worship & Music Committee and/or Congregational Council.
Provide necessary service music and hymn selection to accompanists/musicians/singers for all services.
Participate in the Worship & Music committee’s annual budget process.
Maintain and/or obtain copyright licenses for music being copied at RELC.
Follow Resurrection Policies and Procedures.
Coordinate the special music performances during services with Pastor and Choir Directors (Chancel, Bell, etc.)
OPTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Chancel and/or Bell, etc. including practices and performances.
Select music and facilitate rehearsals.
Share music monthly at the traditional service during the program year (September - Easter).
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
Do you have experience with ProPresenter and Planning Center software as well as Apple devices?
Do you have any interest in directing our Chancel choir and/or Bell choir?
The position requires playing piano for our Praise Band at our Contemporary Services. Do you play piano and, if so, have you played contemporary Christian Music for worship services? Please note any additional piano experience such as playing for funerals, weddings, hymns, etc.
