Skills Required for Music Director (Organist):
Ability to play fluently organ, piano-keyboard and/or other musical instruments.
Ability to read music from chosen pieces.
2-5 years of experience in a church related musical background.
Job Responsibilities:
Meet with the Pastor and Worship Committee to coordinate music needs for Sunday’s worship music for both the 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM services. Communicate faithfully with the Senior Pastor and staff.
Plan, rehearse, direct the choir and perform the music for the traditional service on Sunday morning. Weekly Sunday Worship will include (but not limited to) gathering music, prelude, hymns, responses, offertory and postlude.
Keep all necessary personnel involved with the Church’s musical contributions updated of all information and decisions.
Meet and direct the choir and coordinate with the bell choir to determine their music plans and set up rehearsal times.
Promote and encourage involvement from members and regular attendees of the congregation to participate in and/or join any of the musical groups or to share their musical talents in any appropriate manner.
Coordinate sanctuary practice time among the music groups and other groups via the Church secretary—calendar.
Have an openness to a wide variety of musical styles, traditional to contemporary.
Lead praise worship and train future leaders.
Exhibit good organizational and communication skills.
Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
Have a relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Ability to shepherd volunteers.
Serve as a consultant regarding issues of repairing, remodeling and upkeep of the organ with approved budget for these activities.
Arrange for a suitable substitute organist/pianist and special music and/or guest musicians when necessary for any regular worship service. Notify the pastor if unable to attend worship due to emergency or illness.
Work within the annual budget for all music of the Church, as determined by the Administrative Council.
Familiarity with Spanish is a plus but not required.
