Position OverviewThe Workplace Technology Senior Software Asset Management engineer is responsible for the implementation of IT Software Asset Management at the American Chemical Society. The role is critical to ensuring the program's success by ensuring that our software assets are acquired, managed, and optimized to reduce costs regarding procurement, compliance, policies, and regulations. It will involve collaborating with stakeholders to create and enact programs, policies, and procedures.Key Responsibilities:ITAM Program Strategy: Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Software Asset Management program.Process and Policy Development: Develop and implement robust processes and policies for software asset management, aiming for operational excellence and compliance.Licensing Management: Ensure that all software within the organization is appropriately licensed, minimizing legal and financial risks associated with under or over-licensing. Analyze usage data to optimize software deployments, reallocating licenses as needed to maximize utilization and minimize costs. Provide recommendations for software consolidation, rationalization, and license optimization strategies.Audit Readiness: Prepare for and manage software license audits, maintaining meticulous records of software licenses, deployments, and usage. Perform internal audits to ensure proper usage and compliance.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements affecting software usage and management both domestic and international.Contract Negotiation: Collaborate with vendors and legal teams to negotiate favorable software purchase agreements and licenses.Vendor Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with software vendors and service providers, managing performance and resolving disputes efficiently.Contract Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of software contracts, ensuring compliance and managing renewals or terminations.Continuous Improvement: Assess and improve software asset management processes, leveraging technology to automate and integrate practices into broader IT and business frameworks.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.Minimum of 10 years of experience in software asset management, IT procurement, or a similar role.Certification in Software Asset Management (e.g., CSAM, IAITAM) is preferred.In-depth understanding of software licensing models, including perpetual licenses, subscription agreements, and volume licensing programs.Familiarity with software asset management tools and technologies for license optimization and usage monitoring.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex licensing agreements and usage data.Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to software asset management and compliance.Experience with ITIL practices and frameworks is a plus.This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $106,000- $143,610 per year.ACS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account or health care savings account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and 4-week work from anywhere; each benefit is subject to the terms of the applicable program.
