Job Description

Kearney & Company is seeking an Internal Controls Consultant to join our team! The Internal Controls Consultant will operate within a client-facing team that supports audit remediation and financial reporting activities within the headquarters of a large federal agency. This Consultant will apply expertise of federal internal control standards (e.g., OMB Circular A-123, GAO Green Book) to streamline operations, remediate control deficiencies, and implement innovative solutions to mitigate risks. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop and implement corrective action plans (CAPs) that comply with professional standards and appropriately address risksAnalyze audit findings and support remediation activities including but not limited to: process owner interviews, root cause analysis, gap analysis between old and new processes, and resulting change management supportAnalyze new or existing legislation, guidance, standards, or agency policy, identify potential gaps in existing operations, and recommend solutionsFacilitate change management of new solutions by authoring training materials, Desktop Guides, Quick Reference Guides, and other materialsContribute to delivery of engagement objectives, actions, and status reportingProvide meeting support including leading discussions, action item tracking, and document managementSupport the mentorship of junior staff on the projectSupport ad-hoc process improvements or compliance activitiesSupport the development of federal financial reporting work products and deliverablesSupport development of analytic or automation tools to remediate audit issues or streamline operational processes

QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a relevant fieldMinimum 5 years of relevant experienceExperience working with internal controls at a CFO Act AgencyExperience in managing remediation of deficiencies from receipt of finding to successful closureWorking knowledge of OMB Circular A-123 and A-136, USSGL, Treasury Financial Manual, GAO Green Book, and/or GAO Yellow BookAbility to read guidance, standards, and regulations and apply to development of remediation strategiesAbility to independently design solutions to solve complex deficienciesAbility to adapt to new, complex, and dynamic client organizational structureSelf-starter with the ability to be a part of or lead a teamStrong written and verbal communication with an ability to condense complex information into briefings for internal teams or external clientsAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)Preferred QualificationsMBA/MS degree from an accredited college/university, CPA, and/or CISAExperience with Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) softwareExperience supporting federal audit at CFO Act agencyExperience working with OMB A-123 and Green Book complianceUnderstanding of GAAP and FASAB standards and guidanceUnderstanding of USSGL and federal accounting scenariosExperience with SSAE No. 18 engagements (either performing evaluations or providing evaluation support), SOC reports, or service organization internal controlsKCO1701#LI-MA1

This range is representative of base pay only and does not include straight time pay for hours worked over 40 per week, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses. Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law.
