MAS supports the accounting function for a variety of diverse clients, primarily in the nonprofit sector. This is a great opportunity for an individual looking for challenging, highly rewarding work. The ideal candidate will possess a high aptitude for learning new systems and processes, is comfortable interfacing with organizational leadership, and is effective working in a deadline driven environment.SummaryThe Managed Accounting Services Staff Accountant supports multiple engagement teams which serve as the Accounting Department for a variety of clients and is primarily responsible for collecting, reconciling, and summarizing accounting information, and utilizing the client's accounting software to complete the monthly close process. The Staff Accountant may be involved with training and overseeing of processors and interns and may have direct contact with the clients they are serving. The work of the Staff Accountant is performed in the Marcum office but may involve travel to client sites.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist engagement teams with month end closing proceduresAssist client with daily accounting services as neededHas direct communication with clients to perform work and address clients' needs and questionsPrepare and maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations for most asset/liability accounts and select revenue and expense accountsReconcile clients' bank accountsPrepare required journal entries, including but not limited to payroll, depreciation, and expensing of prepaid itemsAssist with financial statement and supplemental report preparationProcess Accounts Payable and check requests on a recurring basis, review general ledger to ensure consistency and accuracy of codingProcess Accounts Receivable invoices and maintain AR system records for clients: general ledger coding review for accuracy and consistency, process cash receipts on a recurring basisAssist engagement team with external audit and 990/ tax filings at year end by preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary informationAssist engagement team with year-end vendor review for 1099 processingPerform self-review to ensure accuracy of workMinimum Qualifications

(Education, experience, certifications)A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other related field.CPA eligibleAccounting experience in public accounting or a non-profit organization, preferredDemonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applicationsProficient in multiple accounting software programs including but not limited to: QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Solomon, and Great Plains, preferredStrong problem solving and analytical skills; proactive and takes initiativeProfessionalism and relationship building skillsStrong verbal, written and communication skillsStrong time management skills and the ability to work in a matrixed environmentBENEFITS:Marcum works hard to keep our compensation and benefit programs competitive with today's market.
