The Director of the MSMS reports to the Associate Dean and is responsible to the Associate Dean and the Advisory Committee for program curriculum, activities, and outcomes. The Director of the MSMS will play a pivotal role in recruitment of prospective students, admission of students, learning and career support of students, curriculum, student matching to medical school programs, and quality improvement of the program. The time requirement for this position is estimated at 0.6 FTE. Remaining FTE may be a combination of teaching, clinical activity, and/or research, and is dependent on the interests and expertise of the candidate.JOB DUTIES:In collaboration with and under direction of the Associate Dean and the Advisory Committee, assume responsibility for the curriculum, courses, and assessments of the MSMS program.Lead marketing and recruitment of prospective students. The director is the face of the program, and interfaces with interested candidates asking about the program.Establish a process for application to the program, working with the School of Medicine Admissions Office and the MSMS Advisory Committee. Review applications of those who are interested in the MSMS program and select suitable students for the admission MSMS program from interested applicants.Provide support for students in the program as they interact with the curriculum and course work. The director will ensure that students receive dedicated learning support, career counseling, and support for the process of application to medical school. The director helps each student navigate the program and curriculum, inclusive of opportunities for research, clinical work, and/or scholarship.Together with core MSMS faculty, interface with course directors of medical school courses and Center for Anatomical Science and Education (CASE) courses in which MSMS students enroll, and ensure that MSMS students have appropriate curricular experiences and assessments in those courses.Together with core MSMS faculty, develop and direct the Capstone course in the MSMS program, and support each student to successfully complete a project appropriate to the MSMS program. These projects are expected to focus on career development, scholarly work, service projects, or related to clinical experience, depending on the goals and interests of individual students.Interface with SOM faculty, the Office of Curricular Affairs, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and clinical partners to ensure the availability of research, service, and clinical opportunities for interested students, as well as potential mentors for students in each of these areas.At least twice a year, submit reports on the MSMS program to the MSMS Advisory Committee of the School of Medicine. Present relevant outcome measures to the Committee.Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of the Pre-clerkship Curriculum.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Experience in and knowledge of process and trends in medical and/or health professions school admissions.Experience with administration or leadership in the first year of medical and/or health professions school.Knowledge of current national and regional trends related to post-baccalaureate or master's programs that aim to help students improve their application to medical school and/or health professions programs.Experience with marketing and recruitment for academic programs.Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.Ability to meet strict deadlines and to work independently.Ability to interface with IT solutions and software frequently used at SLU School of Medicine, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Canvas.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to student information, adhere to requirements of title IX.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:An MD degree (or equivalent), or PhD, or EdD or equivalent degree.Minimum of two years of experience with medical and/or health professions education or related fields, including teaching in pre-clerkship courses and/or administrative support of pre-clerkship courses.
