The Hemp Lab in the Agriculture Research Development Program (ARDP) at Central State University is seeking a post-doctoral scientist to conduct hemp breeding, field trials, and product development. The candidate should have strong experience cultivating hemp and developing new products. The selected individual should also be well skilled in the use of analytical instrumentation, chiefly gas and liquid chromatography systems. The candidate will work closely with the project PI and will be expected to supervise and mentor student researchers.Duties and Responsibilities

Genetics, selection, and breeding of new hemp cultivarsChemical and physiological characterization of breeding linesDevelop new hemp products from grain, fiber, and metabolitesSynthesis of target compoundsDevelop standard and novel analytical protocolsDevelop new methods of production and isolation of target analytesIdentification of unknown analytesAbility to produce outcomes under strict deadlinesData entry, management, and summarizationConduct statistical analyses and interpretation of dataPrepare research findings for presentations and publicationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsKnowledgeable in data entry management and presentation skillsSupervise and manage undergraduate studentsMust be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work under limited supervisionOther duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisorMinimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, Horticulture, Agriculture, Chemistry, or related field with experience analyzing plant natural productsExperience with hemp or CannabisExperience in operating and troubleshooting instrumentation – LC/MS/MS and GC/MS instrumentsEvidence for qualitative and quantitative analyses of diverse natural productsPreferred Qualifications

Evidence of peer-reviewed publicationsExperience and interest in mentoring/teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgroundsAbility to establish and follow SOP, QA, and QC practicesPosting Date
