Director of Residence LifePOSITION SUMMARY:The Assistant Director of Residence Life – Chicago Campus (ADRL - CHI) will serve as a live-in, primary administrator for on-campus residence hall and support the student experience programming and engagement opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life the ADRL-CHI will provide support, programming, information, advising, and referrals to the Dominican student Chicago campus community. The ADRL will also be responsible for managing occupancy of the residence hall and maintaining a highly visible presence. The ADRL-CHI will collaborate with partners across divisional units to identify and remove institutional obstacles to student success and engagement. Promote and develop opportunities for student engagement that are holistic and inclusive; and build a living learning community that supports timely completion, completion with a purpose and skill building.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Residential Programming OversightImplement and evaluate the residential programming model, emphasizing competencies including student engagement, positive relationships, student success, leadership, community building, social justice, and wellness.Oversee Graduate Assistants in the planning and implementation of programs.Attend and assist faculty with the implementation of the weekly “City of Chicago as Campus” programming.Administer programs grounded in student leadership theory, student development theory, and current residential best practices.Work with partners across divisional units to identify and remove institutional obstacles to student success and leadership development.Utilize engagement software such as: EngageDU, Microsoft Teams, and eRezLife to facilitate various programming initiatives.Living Learning Community CoordinationManage the day-to-day operations for a themed/living-learning community with academic and program partners on behalf of the Office of Residence Life.Provide direction for the development of a themed/living-learning community that promotes the mission and vision of the Division of Student Success and Engagement.Initiate assessment that tracks student participation, retention, and success in the themed living-learning communities.Work with faculty to provide educational, intentional programs for themed living-learning communities within the residential area.Oversee Graduate Assistants in the planning and implementation of a living-learning community and/or themed community programming.Administrative TasksAdvise students on matters related to housing and residential life including conflict mediation and referral to appropriate on and off-campus resources. Follow up on residents’ concerns.Advance the University and the Division of Student Success & Engagement’s strategic plan for student success through participation in goal setting, program implementation, committee/task force work, and assessment efforts.Track and assess duty log for trends.Attend meetings on a weekly/biweekly basis including, but not limited to: Resident Life staff meetings, professional development sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, and meetings with students and supervisors.Manage and maintain the housing email and Residence Life webpage.Housing OperationsFacilitate housing assignments and room selection.Manage occupancy and billing such as damage billing from room condition reports, meal plans, resident cancellation, temporary housing.Manage the opening and closing of the residence hall.Manage and oversee summer residential offerings.Manage and maintain the room key disbursement process and room condition reports.Coordinate summer housing placement for students and outside groups.Facilities ManagementWork with the Director of Residence Life to identify areas of facilities that need upgrades.Walk through building on a regular basis for cleanliness and maintenance needs identification.Communicate to residents any facility maintenance issues.Emergency and Crisis ResponseParticipate in a 24/7 on-call duty rotation. Must be able to arrive to campus within a reasonable period of time (60 minutes) to respond to any emergency.Respond to emergency situations and assist in resolving resident and facilities concerns and needs. This includes evenings, holidays, weekends, summer, and university breaks.Provide appropriate post-crisis referral and follow-up with students and staff as needed.Serve as a liaison with the Director of Residence Life, Campus Safety, and Wellness Center.Share responsibility in maintaining health, fire, and safety standards.Student ConductServe as an integral part of the conduct team, building a sense of restorative justice within the residence hall through the conduct process.Respond to and process alleged policy violations as reported by staff, students, Campus Safety, or community members.Serve as a hearing officer for conduct cases; adjudicate student conduct cases, upholding the Student Code of Conduct and hearing board policies.SupervisionSupervise, hire, and train graduate students that support residential operations.Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent verbal and written skillsAbility to function in a growing environment and work collaborativelyAbility to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staffProficiency in MS Office programs and student database systemsEducation and Experience:PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree in Higher Education, Conflict Resolution, Education, or other related area preferred.Supervisory experience preferredPhysical Demands:Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computerMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesSalary and FLSA Status:Salary: $55,000 - $60,000 annuallyFLSA Status: Exempt 37.5 hoursComprehensive health, dental, and vision insuranceRetirement plan with employer matching contributionsTuition remission for employees and their dependentsFlexible spending accounts (FSA)Generous paid time off (PTO)Employment at Dominican University is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation.About Dominican University:Dominican University is a Catholic, comprehensive teaching university located in River Forest, a suburb of Chicago, with an additional campus in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
