Key Responsibilities:Revenue Cycle FunctionsProcess paper and electronic claim forms for chargeable and billable services.Resolve billing system edits (EDI/Charge Review) to produce clean claims.Review and ensure key data accuracy within the claim form, including provider, practice, CDT/CPT, fees, and appropriate documentation.Review billing correspondence for timely resolution.Apply appropriate denial and claim status codes.Recognize and address insurance reimbursement issues, coding problems, and other financial condition impacts.Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Managers to resolve and share denial trends.Accounts ReceivableFollow up and reprocess claims as necessary.Research complex billing issues, confirm primary and secondary payers, and evaluate coordination of benefits.Identify appropriate contract/plan for payment for all phases of care.Analyze financial data to identify trends in aging accounts and common denials; share findings with management.Implement new systems and processes for managing unpaid or underpaid bills/claims.Draft and submit appeals and escalation letters to payors or patients.Collaborate with clinic managers, supervisors, and providers to resolve billing inquiries.Educate patients on financial responsibility and expectations.Maintain patient relationships to encourage retention and contribute to a patient-focused environment.Payment AllocationCollection and Reconciliation:Collect and reconcile patient and insurance payments.Ensure Cash Handling Procedure is followed in the clinic.Prepare and submit daily journals for ATM, Lockbox, Credit Card deposits, ACH, EFT, i835, and insurance credit card payments using PeopleSoft.Maintain ancillary Excel spreadsheets for reconciliation, statistical, and audit purposes.Prepare daily journals to transfer funds to the Dental Center Division General Ledger.Maintain Excel journal and deposit logs and reconcile monthly journals.Manage the SAS 112 reconciliation process in coordination with accounting and the controller's office.Additional ResponsibilitiesServe as a resource for front desk and treatment planners; resolve system, procedural, and policy issues.Contribute to the development of new administrative processes to streamline billing workflow and improve efficiency.Stay updated on changes in government regulations and third-party carrier requirements.Draft changes to systems, policies, and procedures as needed.Provide backup in all areas of Patient Billing Services through cross-training.Assist in developing training material on system or operational procedure changes.Support management with specific tasks, training, and special projects.Work independently within departmental guidelines, exercise appropriate judgment, and function effectively as a team member.Prioritize workload to meet productivity, accuracy, and service level/aging targets.Attend required meetings and complete trainings and University requirements within deadlines.Perform other duties as assigned.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
