Role Summary:
The Director of Sales has a pivotal role and is responsible for driving national sales growth and expanding our market presence. This position demands a strategic, customer-focused leader with a proven ability to build and lead high-performing sales teams. The Director of Sales will develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies that align with the company’s vision and core values, ensuring sustained revenue growth and market leadership.In this role, the Director of Sales will oversee all aspects of the sales function, including team development, customer relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration. This role requires a hands-on approach, with regular travel to customer sites and company headquarters in Christiansburg, VA. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader who can inspire excellence, foster innovation, and contribute to the long-term success of Meridian Wildlife Services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement a comprehensive national sales strategy to drive market expansion, increase revenue, and maintain debt-free operations.Conduct thorough market analysis to forecast sales trends, identify growth opportunities, and adjust strategies accordingly.Develop accurate sales forecasts and align sales plans with marketing strategies.
Sales Leadership and Team Management:
Recruit, train, mentor, and lead a high-performing sales team. Develop and implement a succession plan for the sales team.Effectively lead and manage a remote sales team. Set clear performance expectations, provide coaching, and hold the team accountable for achieving revenue goals.
Customer Relationship Management:
Establish and nurture strong relationships with high-ranking executives at national accounts to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.Enhance and optimize our "Same Side Selling" sales model. Provide exceptional white-glove service and support to our customers and cultivate lasting relationships with both vendors and customers.Lead initiatives to optimize the end-to-end customer journey, ensuring exceptional levels of satisfaction and loyalty at every touchpoint.Ensure effective sales execution, negotiation, and achievement of sales targets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with the leadership team to align sales strategies with the company's vision, core values, and long-term goals.Foster strong partnerships with marketing, customer service, and operations teams.
Sales Operations and Departmental Financial Oversight:
Oversee the acquisition, development, and management of significant national accounts. Lead contract negotiations.Oversee the financial aspects of the sales department, including budgeting, resource allocation, and cost management.Drive top-line revenue growth by meeting and exceeding sales targets.
Performance Analysis and Reporting:
Continuously evaluate and refine sales processes.Regularly analyze sales performance against targets, providing reports and actionable insights to the leadership team.Implement strategies based on performance data to improve sales outcomes and customer satisfaction.
Travel and Field Work:
Travel to support sales efforts, including customer site visits, ride-alongs with sales team members, and participation in meetings at our headquarters in Christiansburg, VA.Develop a comprehensive understanding of and proficiency with our bird capture process to effectively articulate the value proposition to our customers. Training is provided.Participate in customer-facing fieldwork, including customer site inspections and sales development activities.
Qualifications
Educational & Work Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Retail, or a related field.Lives in the Continental US and is a US Citizen.5+ years of proven experience in sales leadership management, preferably within the food safety, food retail, or big-box store industry, with demonstrated success in outside sales management.Experience managing teams of 6+ outside sales representatives, with a track record of building, motivating, and leading high-performing teams.Experience in managing and expanding national accounts, with a track record of driving significant revenue growth.Strong servant leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a sales team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and IT literacy, with experience managing sales processes and customer relationships through digital platforms.Excellent interpersonal, listening, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers, vendors, and internal teams.Strong organizational and time management skills, with keen business and financial acumen.Preferred Qualifications:Proven experience leading sales teams, managing national accounts, and consistently achieving revenue targets of $20 million or more.Expertise in "Same Side Selling" techniques and other value-based sales methodologies.Strong understanding of high-end technology relevant to the industry.Remote Work and Travel Requirements:Ability to effectively work from a remote location, with strong self-management and communication skills.Must reside in the Eastern or Central Time Zones to align with company operations.Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including regular trips to the company’s headquarters in Christiansburg, VA, and customer site visits for sales development and relationship management.
