Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years. In Anduril’s Land Systems team, we're advancing the future of land-based crewed and robotic ground systems. Our goal is to transform innovative designs into fully operational, software-defined combat vehicles, and we're searching for a System Safety Engineer to help us achieve the highest standards of operational safety. Your role is to own constructing an evidence-based safety case that demonstrates our commitment to safety at every stage of our ground systems' lifecycle. As a System Safety Engineer on the Land Systems team, you will work within the organization to lead Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Trees, Risk Management and Risk Mitigation activities, System Safety Assessments, and Hazard Management and Hazard Mitigation activities. You will support hardware and software development teams, Reliability Engineering, Systems Engineering, and controls teams. The right person for this role has knowledge of design and development with a safety focus on Land Systems test, analysis, manufacturing, operations, asset tracking and maintenance, and continuous improvement experience. If you are someone who has hands-on experience throughout the entire new product development life cycle from concept to customer delivery, loves to build world-class Reliability and Reliability Safety processes, work with and across multi disciplinary teams, and be accountable for results, then this role is for you.As a key member of our team, you will lead the creation and ongoing refinement of a model-based safety case, ensuring it's grounded in evidence and rigorous analysis. You'll work hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams to lead Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Trees, Risk Management and Mitigation activities, System Safety Assessments, and Hazard Management and Mitigation activities. Your work on safety will permeate design, testing, manufacturing, and maintenance, guiding our systems to meet strict safety requirements while maintaining operational excellence.Your comprehensive experience in product development, from conception through to customer handover and beyond, will be instrumental in establishing, validating, and continuously improving our safety practices. In this critical role, you will be the driving force in ensuring our ground combat vehicles are not only cutting edge but also meet the highest safety standards. Your work will push technological boundaries while supporting our nation's security, making a real difference for those who rely on our systems in the field.WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead development and maintenance of a model-based safety case for an uncrewed ground combat system with autonomous mobility functions in a small cross-functional team.Own the end-to-end safety analysis process evaluating a system from functional hazard analysis (FHA) to the lowest level of the fault tree analysis (FTA).Identify and document risks throughout the product lifecycle, coordinate risk mitigation with supporting stakeholders, and verify and validate risk or hazard mitigation measures.Conduct safety analysis and testing to understand system behavior and breaking points under heavy load, and engineer solutions to enable the system to degrade gracefully.Support the design requirements process as a subject matter expert to ensure teams adhere to safety best practices and triage proactive hazard mitigations with the team coming out of reliability and safety engineering analyses.Establish fault management architectures and define system states, ensuring fault containment regions and cross-strapping for system resilience.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 5 years industry experience as a safety engineer or equivalent engineering background.B.S. Degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. Experience with electrical, electromechanical and software-intensive systems preferred.U.S. Person Status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.Experience with ISO 26262, MIL-STD-882, ARP4754, ARP4761, or a similar commercial standard.Experience conducting both deductive and inductive safety analyses, such as fault tree analysis (FTA); functional hazard assessments (FHA), failure modes, effects, and causes analysis (FMECA); probabilistic risk assessment (PRA); root cause assessment (RCA); Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP); or goal function tree, especially in a model-based environment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience developing autonomous vehicles, advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functionality, or other complex robotic systems.Experience developing and maintaining a safety case in accordance with UL 4600 or equivalent, especially in a model-based environment.Experience developing testable system and software safety requirements and integrating them into a safety case.Failure investigation experience with proven track record of solving problems and preventing reoccurrence.Familiarity with industry autonomy standards including ISO 21448 and UL 4600.Experience with a scripting language such as Python, MATLAB, or Julia, especially to conduct safety analyses, risk assessments, or verification evidence.Experience reading electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation (P&ID) diagrams, electrical engineering best practices, and industry guidelines for reliability.Experience supporting field tests, including data acquisition, data analysis, and project coordination.
