Work with MCPC Committee: Education and Spiritual Nurture/Youth and Children

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time

Reports to: Senior Pastor/Head of Staff

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Director of Teenage Christian Education is accountable to the Lord and to the members of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church USA. In consultation with the Senior Pastor and the Session and with the support of and in close cooperation with the Education and Spiritual Nurture Committee and the Youth and Children’s Committee, implement, promote, and supervise the Teenage Christian Education Program of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. Always exhibit personal qualities of actively assisting other staff members in a manner supportive of meeting the needs of the congregation while exhibiting good interpersonal and judgmental skills, with a concentration being given to verbal and written communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sunday School Program:

Supervise the Teens Sunday School program.

Promote Sunday School attendance for teens and their families.

Order and evaluate curriculum, materials, and other items used weekly in the classrooms, with the guidance of the Education and Spiritual Nurture Committee.

Recruit volunteers to help teach Sunday School with the guidance of the Education and Spiritual Nurture Committee.

Summer Church School and Summer Activities:

Supervise a Church School program throughout the summer that reflects the more relaxed schedule of the summer.

Plan, promote and implement Summer Fellowship activities for Teens and their families (i.e. Wonderful Wednesdays, Fun Faith Adventures and Art Camp).

Promote/Plan and attend Presbytery camps and youth conferences (i.e. Montreat at Montreat College).

High School Teen Fellowship Program (Grades 9-12):

Coordinate the High School Teen Fellowship program with guidance of MCPC Youth & Children Committee.

Be an active spiritual leader and mentor in faith-based youth programming developing a flexible schedule to adapt to current times.

Work in conjunction with the MCPC Youth & Children Committee to recruit and train adult advisors/volunteers for the middle school fellowship to help in teaching Christian discipleship.

Plan special trips and spiritual retreats in coordination with the MCPC Youth & Children Committee.

Plan, coordinate and participate/lead special trips, beach trip, ski trips, lock ins, etc.

Plan fund raising and mission opportunities in coordination with the MCPC Youth & Children Committee.

Plan volunteer involvement for Sunday night meals and other special trips and events.

Other Responsibilities:

Be an active spiritual leader and mentor in faith-based youth programming.

In conjunction with the Safety Committee, ensure that the “Child, Youth, Volunteer and Staff Protection Policy” is always implemented, including training workshops for adults working with children in church sponsored activities as well as all new officers and new employees.

When available, attend weekly staff meetings.

Serve as ex-officio member on the MCPC Youth & Children’s Committee.

Attend continuing education events to keep current of trends and methods in Christian education.

Assist with the development and management of children/youth related budgets.

Carry out other duties as assigned by the Head of Staff/Session.

Communication: announcement and calendar for weekly email and Sunday morning.

Work with Congregational Care to write quarterly to semi-annual get-well cards to members in need.

Work in conjunction with Elementary and Youth Director of Christian Education to coordinate events and volunteer opportunities.

Worship:

Plan and coordinate Graduation Sunday.

Encourage attendance of teens and their families to service on Sundays.

Holidays:

Plan and coordinate events such as holiday parties, caroling, etc.

Easter Egg Hunt - (Opportunity for Teens to participate and log community service hours).

Trunk or Treat - (Opportunity for Teens to participate and log community service hours).

Working with Others:

Works well with very little supervision, is a self-starter, goes beyond expectations, takes pride in accomplishments, etc.

Adheres to scheduled vacation and other leave time, arrives on time for appointments, arrives at scheduled time for rehearsals and services, keeps supervisor informed, etc.

DIRECTION/RESPONSIBILITY:

Works under the direct supervision of the Head of Staff in consultation with Personnel & Admin committees as well as working in conjunction with the MCPC Youth & Children’s Committee.
