For more information, visit www.rakuten.com.Rakuten Rewards is searching for a Data Governance Manager to join its growing Operations team. We are a “get things done” group focused on reducing risk while improving organizational efficiency. This role will work closely with the legal department and other local and regional stakeholders and be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of data governance policies, procedures, and standards. Secondary responsibilities will include cross-training in other team functions, like incident management and reporting. The candidate will be able to influence beyond reporting lines and along all levels of the organization. Most importantly, this person will demonstrate initiative and be dedicated to helping their colleagues work better and do the right thing!Primary Responsibilities:Oversee the organization’s data governance framework.Create and maintain data inventories, catalogs, repositories, classifications, and corresponding ownership in collaboration with product, data, and legal teams.Develop and enforce policies for the management of data assets, including classification, records retention schedules and privacy considerations based on research findings and best practices, in alignment with regional and global Rakuten policies.Develop and implement processes, systems and workflows to improve efficiencies and effectiveness for the data governance, privacy, and compliance offices, as well as the business stakeholders.Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the data governance program aligns with the data and information security strategies.Lead and develop data stewards across Rewards US to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded into the various departments throughout the company.Assess and identify risks by using Rewards risk management standards, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for within the data governance program.Conduct employee training on data management best practices to ensure that employees are aware of proper procedures for handling sensitive data.Stay apprised of new external developments in data management, and cross-train on other Business Operation functions to act as a back-up for incident management and reporting or other risk mitigations efforts.Skills and Qualifications (Required):3-5 years of experience in data governance or related field.Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or related fields.Specialist knowledge of data governance principles and practices.Understanding of relevant statutory frameworks applying to data privacy and governance, such as CCPA, GDPR, etc., with the ability to translate those into scalable business processes that empower teams to operate efficiently within guardrails.Ability to understand technical concepts and terminology related to data table structure and data processing, have the ability to identify and map data descriptions to approved purposes.Ability to understand how data is used and identify patterns within its use.Strong ability to extract information by questioning, active listening and interviewing.Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear requirements, specifications and documentation.Solid organizational skills, with the ability to manage tasks and projects based on priority and timelines.Strong attention to detail and commitment to thorough work.Comfortable communicating with and requesting information from all levels of the organization, including senior leadership and both technical and non-technical audiences.Ability to use discretion when managing sensitive information or subject matter.Nice to haves:Experience with data mapping strongly preferred.Experience with requirements-gathering for a data warehouse or similar data system.Familiarity with tools or programming languages for data processing, such as SQL queries.Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Snowflake or Tableau.Experience in a regulated industry like Fintech or FinServ.Five Principles for SuccessOur worldwide practices describe specific behaviors that make Rakuten unique and united across the world. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.USD $78,651.00 - $135,216.00 annually
