Four Year Fixed Term, Full-TimeSalary: $122,000 - $140,000 per annum + 11% superThe Opportunity:The City is currently seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Team Leader of Strategic Planning and Heritage services to help shape the future of our community. You will be responsible for leading the review and development of land use and heritage planning instruments that support Fremantle’s future growth and development. You will lead a highly-skilled team of strategic planning and heritage experts, and provide expert strategic planning advice and reporting to the City and the community.Over the coming years you will lead a number of strategic priorities, including renewal of the City’s Local Planning Scheme and planning policies, a new Housing Strategy and continued roll-out of the City’s Heritage Area reviews.Fremantle is a unique place with deep history, character and urban complexity. The Team Leader Strategic Planning and Heritage is an opportunity to provide leadership and expert advice that enhances Fremantle’s existing qualities and contributes to what will be a transformational phase in the city’s development.You will be joining a creative and highly-capable multi-disciplinary team with a strong culture of collaboration and critical thinking. The successful applicant will have a passion for cities and the potential for strategic planning to positively impact the community as well as the City’s operations.Key responsibilities include:Provide direction, motivation and support to a professional multidisciplinary team.Manage staff and supervise the work of the strategic planning and heritage services streams to achieve agreed Business Unit targets/goals.Coordinate the development, assessment and review of heritage and town planning instruments and the implementation of the strategic land use and heritage planning framework for the City.Provide expert advice and professional support to the City Leadership team, Elected Members and the community on strategic planning matters.Liaise and negotiate with proponents to ensure proposed structure plans, development plans and scheme amendments align with Council’s objectives.About you:Tertiary or post-graduate qualification in town planning.Significant practical experience in the town planning profession and complex strategic planning matters.Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and conceptual skills.Excellent leadership skills and collaborative skills/behaviours.Comprehensive knowledge of the operation of a local government authority in regard to town planning matters.Excellent ability to both lead and work within multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.If you are passionate about making a difference and want to make a positive impact on the community, then we want to hear from you!The City of Fremantle promotes a workplace that actively seeks to include, welcome and value unique contributions of all people.
