The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is seeking an experienced planning professional to undertake the role of the Director Planning Appeals.The Director role provides strategic leadership, direction and day-to-day management to the Planning Appeals directorate with respect to State Administration Tribunal (SAT) applications and associated matters including the management of all aspects of the operational performance of the program area to ensure administration of statutory functions is undertaken in compliance with the relevant legislation or regulatory framework.The Director provides high level planning advice and expertise to the Western Australian Planning Commission, Director General, Chief Planning Advisor, Executive Director Development Assessment Panels, Assistant Directors General, relevant divisions the State Solicitors Office and other stakeholders. The Director also identifies opportunities for improvements to the planning framework to inform review of legislation, policy and planning reform.This is a permanent full-time position. This recruitment process may be used to fill future similar roles that arise across the WA public sector in the next 12 months.To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:An accredited tertiary degree qualification, in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development.Detailed working knowledge of the Western Australian planning system and WA planning framework with a strong understanding of planning law.Extensive experience working in the Western Australian planning system, or transferable experience in similar systems, including demonstrated experience in both the implementation and design of the planning framework (statutory and strategic planning).Excellent interpersonal and SAT application management skills including proven ability to respond to complex planning proposals and work proactively and collaboratively across stakeholders and legal sectors to achieve planned outcomes.Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and mediation skills with strong experience in effectively solving problems and managing conflicting needs and expectations.Further Information:
