Based in the Portland, OR headquarters, the Head of People is responsible for leading a cohesive and uniquely-Stumptown people strategy to curate a compelling employee experience while delivering on Stumptown's business objectives through our talented team. Leading all aspects of HR for our multi-state (OR, CA and NY) and multi-channel (Retail, Manufacturing, Corporate) teams, this position requires a broad base of knowledge combined with the ability to curate creative solutions that meet the unique needs of our diverse work environments. This individual will build and lead all People operations for the company, including onboarding, training and development, compensation analysis, benefits, organizational planning, organizational engagement, DEI efforts, Recruiting, community engagement and culture.This role will work in a highly collaborative environment across the business, serving as a member of the Leadership Team, and will require an artful blend of data-driven decision making with intuition, humor and a healthy irreverence for tradition and 'the norm'. Strategic Leadership:

Partner with the leadership team to drive strategic planning for the People function and partner with department leaders to support the overall People strategy across the company. Provide ongoing thought leadership and coaching to leaders. Leverage KPIs and communicate progress to key stakeholders as needed.

Engagement and Culture:

Champion Stumptown's people-centric culture and develop creative solutions, in support of our Mission, Vision and Values, to amplify employee engagement, DEI efforts and overall company morale with the goal of making Stumptown an employer of choice. Measure success through engagement surveys, employee satisfaction, retention, etc.

Organizational Planning:

Lead the efforts around long-term people planning to fuel the growth of the business. Partner directly with the leadership team to understand business goals and partner with department heads to develop and meet organizational objectives and KPIs.

Onboarding, Training and Retention:

Develop programs for the onboarding, training and engagement of employees, with satisfaction and retention at the core of every decision. Evolve company-wide performance management programs to support feedback loops, competency and skill development, goal setting and career pathing.

Process Implementation and Compliance:

Design, implement and optimize systems and processes to support all People objectives. Own employee relations and compliance, and ensure Stumptown is up to date on best practices and employment law. Ensure Stumptown leverages technology across the HR spectrum to drive efficiency and ease throughout the function.

Community Impact:

Lead Stumptown's efforts in community engagement, ensuring our good citizenship in the communities where we work and serve. Utilize the B Corp Impact Assessment as a tool to measure and monitor our practices and push Stumptown to further uphold our Mission to honor every human connected to our coffee.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position manages a small team of HR and administrative professionals as well as external vendor relationships.

Qualifications

10+ years of human resources experience, covering a broad range of functional expertise with at least 2 years managing most, if not all, functional areas of the People organization. Prior experience in retail or manufacturing, strongly preferred.

Expert ability to think strategically and execute tactically while leveraging scrappy budgets.

Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, benefits, organizational design, employee relations, DEI, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Possesses exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside of the organization.

Demonstrated experience in change management best practices.

Possesses strong business and operational acumen; with the ability to balance conflicting needs and timelines of multiple stakeholders.

Ability to operate strategically while also balancing operational and tactical work.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit continuously at a computer.

Carry weight, lift - lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Travel - travel within the Portland area to our multiple work sites regularly; occasional national travel up to 25%.

Work Environment

Work takes place in office settings; this position is based at our HQ in Portland, Oregon and requires on-site presence 3+ days/week.

Requires the ability to communicate with employees, management team members, and external business contacts in person, by phone, computer, and video conferencing.

May occasionally require travel via car and/or airline, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, and overnight hotel stays.

Ability to work occasionally outside of standard business hours to address urgent business needs.
