We strive to deliver a supportive partnership through an all-encompassing holistic approach based on a foundation of education.The RoleAs the Controller at Synapse Virtual Production, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial health and operations of the company. You will manage and streamline all accounting processes, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger management, and payroll. Your responsibilities will include preparing accurate financial statements, managing month-end and year-end closings, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant regulations. Additionally, you will be tasked with leading financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting efforts, providing strategic insights and recommendations to support business growth. You will collaborate closely with department heads and the executive team, providing financial analysis and reporting to inform critical business decisions. This role will be our first internal Accounting hire and will have the opportunity to build out the accounting function from the ground up.ResponsibilitiesOversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidating financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.Manage year-end forecasting and internal audits.Manage the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns. Ensure compliance with tax regulations and identify opportunities for tax savings.Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure the company meets its financial obligations. Develop and implement strategies to optimize the company’s capital structure.Provide leadership and mentorship to a small accounting team. Identify opportunities for professional development and training.Collaborate with business leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.QUALIFICATIONSOpen to candidates outside of California.At least five years of experience in an accounting department or at an accounting firm, with exposure to cash management, general ledger management, and project accounting.Experience in production, post-production or creative agencies preferred.Ability to prioritize, self-manage, and multi-task, preferably with experience working in a production environment.Ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities with ease.Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices.Extensive knowledge of GAAP and Excel.Knowledge of various ERP and online accounting systems required.
