The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APP examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. This position is not remote and involves experience with Inpatient Hepatology and outpatient GI and hepatology.

The APRN is responsible for assessing physical and psychosocial status of patients in an outpatient setting. The APPs will see Hepatology and GI patients in an outpatient clinic setting through interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies. This position is M-F and requires 8 half days in outpatient ambulatory clinics and at UHealth locations including UHealth Tower MSCC Clinic, Kendall, and Lennar.

The APRN is required to take CITI certification to participate as a provider in our Clinical Research Studies. The APRN will be involved in interpretation, billing, and dissemination of results to patients for fibroscans performed by the lab.

Responsibilities

Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment and collaborates with a physician in formulating treatment plans.

Writes prescriptions for medication and therapeutic measures in accordance with written practice protocols.

Independently follows patients in an outpatient setting and manages concurrent patient care.

Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff.

Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician.

Sees patients in follow-up between infusions and post-procedure as necessary.

Initiates and maintains infusion orders for non-chemo infusions as per protocol.

Reads and assesses fibroscan studies and provides interpretation.

Orders appropriate procedures and laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.

Develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family.

Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.

Provides assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients.

Administers nursing assessments, including performing examinations and giving injections.

Assesses severity of patient's condition and directs patients to appropriate medical providers.

Provides peer-to-peer reviews with insurance carriers in support of patients’ medications.

Consents patients for GI procedures and places orders for procedures and preps.

Maintains EMR inbox and closes encounters in a timely manner according to UM MG guidelines.

Responds to patient inquiries and communicates results to patients in coordination with our back office staff.

Provides in-basket message coverage for providers who depart the practice or are out on FMLA.

Closes in-basket messages within 7 days and encounters within 3 days of visit.

Must have annual flu vaccine unless able to provide medical or religious documentation.

CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation:

Master’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Valid State of Florida APRN License

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, with previous experience in GI and Hepatology practice as APRN or PA, and 1 year of Inpatient Hepatology as an independent provider.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.

Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.

Performs in a tactful and professional manner.

CITI Certification for Clinical Research Study participation and previous experience with EPIC EMR software.
