As a senior member of the Midland Executive Team this role carries full operational and budgetary responsibility for the fleet, facilities, and procurement. The Vice President, Asset Management will ensure that the asset team is collaboratively working with key stakeholders across all areas of the company to provide safe, reliable facilities and equipment that meet our Irving standards while supporting increased utilization and optimized costs. The incumbent will consistently display a professional, responsive demeanor, with a keen sense of urgency while maintaining a team-based approach.The Best Fit:You have a university degree with a concentration in Engineering and/or equivalent experience.You have a P.Eng designation or equivalent (Asset).You have superior communication skills, ability to influence, high degree of business acumen, strategic thinking but tactical execution, self-starter, results driven, ability to manage priorities effectively, demonstrated ability to motivate a workforce, develop a strong performance driven leadership team, and an engaging culture. Solid understanding of the transportation industry.You have comprehensive technical knowledge of transport trucks, tractors and auxiliary equipment preferred, along with knowledge of maintenance prevention, repair requirements, computerized vehicle maintenance programs, and project management systems.You have comprehensive technical knowledge around real estate, facility design, construction, and maintenance/upkeep. Ability to oversee and provide strategic direction on property management along with large scale building and improvement projects.You have procurement strategy and process knowledge.

The Responsibilities:

Responsible for department safety objectives and leading the team to a goal of zero injuries. Lead safety initiatives and be accountable for safety performance through development of policies, procedures, training programs as needed to ensure the safety of employees.Establish an in-house asset management framework and strategy for implementation, including the development of processes, defining key performance indicators, detailing out clear roles and responsibilities, and daily management structure. Oversee all metrics to understand results and areas of opportunity to improve. Develop period end reporting and updates for management meetings with overall leadership and executive team.Plan, develop, monitor, and ensure adherence to the fleet maintenance budget; prepare and present budget projections; develop and direct long and short-range planning for maintenance spend for fleet and shop budgets.Plan, develop, monitor, and ensure adherence to the facilities building and yard budgets for all terminals (owned/leased) and maintenance shops; prepare and present budget projections; develop and direct long and short-range planning for special maintenance projects along with all regular yearly spend.Ensure team works closely with operations for input and feedback.Responsible for the overall capital spend. Includes setting strategic direction, overseeing execution, and forecasting of the spend for both the facilities and fleet capital budget across the organization. Working closely with our IT division is required to ensure proper forecasting of IT related spend. Ensure we have a long-term approach and clear vision on capital spend across the organization with a detailed 3-year capital forecast and higher-level longer-term 5+ year spend forecast.Responsible for all short and long-term fleet requirements to enable operations to meet customer service requirements by having the correct fleet size with properly specified equipment at the right locations. Purchase and put new equipment in service and dispose of old equipment as required to optimize life cycle cost; ensure the accuracy and pertinence of fleet master data; track fleet trends such as utilization, cost per mile, downtime, parts usage and forecasts for future maintenance and budgetary needs. Ensure in cab technology is properly setup and maintained. Research and understand experimental and advancing industry technologies for improving customer satisfaction, increased reliability while reducing costs, improved productivity, and operational efficiencies. Ensure all equipment has a valid MVI and registration.Direct the development and implementation of maintenance plans and programs to improve fleet reliability and utilization for all equipment. Ensure we are doing the right preventative maintenance at the correct frequency. Ensure all technicians have the proper tools and training to perform quality repairs and maintenance while finding ways to continually improve. Oversee planning and scheduling process of work between operations and maintenance to reduce downtime. Ensure all equipment meets DOT standards and requirements.Responsible for all internal maintenance shops safety, performance, and operational results. Provide strategic direction on location and size of shops to optimize maintenance costs, reliability, and equipment utilization. Ensure we are meeting standard work times, properly managing part inventory.Oversee contracted fleet maintenance operations and other maintenance arrangements with external maintenance providers across North America to ensure we have adequate coverage that provide quality repairs at optimized costs. Ensure contractor expectations are met in terms of reliability, on time performance, costs, and regulatory compliance.Responsible to ensure all Midland facilities are safe and maintained to the Irving standards. Ensure we have a 3-year plan detailed for known special projects and routine maintenance, manage the exceptions on non-forecasted spend as required. Conduct property visits on a regular basis and meet with Terminal Management to review and assess property physical condition along with routine maintenance plans and project status. Actively oversee corporate engineering team on all critical special maintenance and capital projects to ensure they are on time, on budget, and to a high level of quality. Represent Midland from a business leadership standpoint on any large-scale capital project for terminal builds, major renovation/expansion projects, etc.Manage and set overall direction on Midlands real estate portfolio working closely with the operations and corporate procurement team to ensure we have the right facilities at the right locations to meet the customer needs. This includes land and facility purchase and sale, contracts for leasing agreements of land and building space, along with any required short-term rentals. Manage complex real estate issues as they arise.Responsible for the strategic direction and overall execution of the Midland procurement and sourcing policies and activities, Approval for Expenditure (AFEs), along with contracts across the Midland organization. Discover, select, evaluate, and maintain strategic sourcing relationships and develop strong partnerships.Develop and lead initiatives to ensure

continuous improvement

in maintenance operations processes, along with other

cross-functional leadership projects

as requested by General Manager. Offer real-time perspective on industry trends and best practices; share insight and wisdom through presentations to key stakeholders.Mentor and develop

maintenance and engineering leaders in a way consistent with the core values of JD Irving, Limited. Oversee the continued development of all maintenance employees to keep them abreast of new technologies; oversee and direct the development of Maintenance Management employees’ skills and understanding of procedures and policies, developing, implementing, monitoring, and overseeing adherence to performance standards. Advance staff through training, professional development, and promotional opportunities.Collaborate with other departments

in achieving operational performance goals and in addressing issues involving facilities, fleet planning, budget, peak service requirements, accidents, quality of goods and services received, resolutions of operational concerns, customer complaints, communications and outreach, risk management, security, etc.Oversee and ensure

Federal, Provincial, and local regulatory compliance

and reporting requirements. Direct adherence to various policies including Worker’s Compensation, Drug & Alcohol, safety, environmental and like issues; work with Company staff to develop policies and procedures that support Managers and Supervisors in complying with these laws and to better assist them with managing their staff.Provide strategic direction to affiliate companies with any rolling equipment purchases, maintenance program setups, etc as required.
