Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective management of the accounting team. This position will address tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements, and year-end compliance reporting. The Controller will have contact with senior-level executives, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Additional duties as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial Management:
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and banking activities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
  • Oversee Third Party accounts payable and receivable, payroll posting, and intercompany activities.


  • Compliance and Audit:
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead the accounting team in the annual review process, consult with external auditors, and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.


  • Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Provide dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members.


  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Provide budget to actual reports as requested by management.


Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting managerial experience required.
  • Accounting team leadership of 5 or more team members.
  • Experience with cash handling, tracking, loss prevention and accounting systems.
  • Above average ability to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data information.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with QuickBooks preferred.


PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug testing and background investigation.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and as needed during audit/period end closing times.
  • Required to frequently talk and hear.
  • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work.
  • Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Must be able to take directional cues directly or indirectly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
