Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing activities of the Prosecutor’s Office and serves as the Senior Prosecutor and Juvenile Presenting Officer for the Tribe.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reviews incident reports, complaints, and referrals from law enforcement. Files criminal and civil charges for violations of tribal laws, appears in Tribal Court to prosecute and present on behalf of the Tribe.Works closely with various Tribal Agencies in the preparation and presentation in court, of criminal and civil cases involving both adults and juveniles and treaty fishing/shellfish cases.Researches, evaluates, and analyzes laws, court decisions, and authorities and assists in the creation, development and modification of codes and policies.Conducts investigations, witness/victim preparation, collects information for restitution and victim impact statements and makes referrals for services in the Domestic Violence Legal Victim Advocate’s absence.Supervises deferred prosecutions, deferred judgments and monitors pre-trial compliance of defendants.Prepares, presents, and monitors child dependency actions.Prepares and maintains legal and administrative records and reports.Prepares grant applications, maintains accurate data and case statistics and monitors compliance with grants awarded for the benefit of the Prosecutor’s Office.Develops and coordinates Prosecutor department to meet organizational goals.Prepares and administers annual department budget.Participates in the development of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians Vision, Mission, Strategic Direction, and a responsibility to convey, model, and carry-out such.Develops and maintains ethical and professional relationships with other Tribal agencies and departments and key vendors in an effort to obtain added value to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.Contributes to a favorable public image of the Tribe by establishing and maintaining relationships and participation in the community (civic, industry, and professional).Performs other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the Prosecutor Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians personnel policies and procedures, and all applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, coaching and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, recognizing and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Qualifications and Requirements

Experience and Intermediate knowledge using word processing and spreadsheets (i.e. Word for Windows, Excel, Access, etc.). Must have a minimum of eight years of experience practicing Indian Law in both Tribal and State Courts. Must have at least three years of prosecutorial experience.Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Licenses or CertificatesMust be a Washington State Bar Association Member in good standing. Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance.Other Skills, Abilities and RequirementsAbility to be culturally sensitive in a diverse society. Must pass background check. Must not have any outstanding arrest warrants and no felony convictions during the past five years. Must be approved through Tribal membership vote. Must maintain the strictest confidence at all times.Physical Demands
