Postdoctoral fellowship - Research on neurodegenerative diseasesPostdoctoral fellowship - Research on neurodegenerative diseases

Location: United StatesJob Posted Date: October 4, 2023Academic PositionsFull-time PositionsPostdoc PositionsPopulation: Life SciencesThe Mordes Lab at UCSF (mordeslab.ucsf.edu) is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to study mechanisms of neurodegeneration in dementia, movement disorders, and related diseases using human stem cell-derived neurons and patient brain samples. The main goals of our research are to develop new models of neurodegenerative diseases and to identify new therapeutic targets. We study the function of proteins that are associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and Parkinson’s disease (PD) and involved in RNA processing, autophagy, and lysosomal biology. We routinely generate human excitatory neurons from cultured stem cells and incorporate neuropathology approaches. The Mordes Lab is part of the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The post-doctoral fellow will engage in dynamic projects on neurodegenerative diseases that utilize single-cell analyses of neurons, isogenic human pluripotent stem cells, RNA-sequencing, and global proteomics, and prepare results for formal presentations and publications.Job Requirements:Required:Recent PhD or MD in the biomedical sciences or related fieldsBackground in core molecular and cellular biologyAbility to independently conduct experiments and perform data analysis, and collaborate effectively with lab membersRecord of research publicationPreferred:Strong interest in neurobiology or neurodegenerative diseaseExperience in computational biology and analysis of large (“omics”) dataPost-doctoral fellow salary and benefits are based on experience and the UC scale. How to Apply:Please send CV (or biosketch) and brief statement of research interests to Dr. Mordes at

daniel.mordes@ucsf.edu .The University of California San Francisco is an equal opportunity employer.Research lab based in the Weill Neurosciences Building at Mission Bay campus. We study ALS and dementia using a combination of stem cell-based models and neuropathological approaches.
